Curiosity 2nd Round: Creating Change for Disadvantaged Children and Young People in UK

Deadline: 12 April 2019

BBC Children in Need and Wellcome have partnered and launched the Second Round of “Curiosity”- a one-off scheme to use the power of exciting and engaging science activities to create change for children and young people experiencing disadvantage in the UK.

They expect to make no more than 35 small awards, and no more than 15 large awards in total in this final round. This means that only the strongest ideas will have a full assessment and they strongly recommend applicants to read these pages carefully before they make their application.

Science is all about discussion, debate and curiosity. It is about asking questions about the world around us and within us and exploring how to answer those questions. Participating in science activities, and asking these questions, can contribute to important changes for children and young people such as increased confidence and self-esteem, improved relationships with others, team-working skills and, simply, a chance to have fun!

About Wellcome

Wellcome exists to improve health by helping great ideas to thrive. They support researchers, they take on big health challenges, they campaign for better science, and they help everyone get involved with science and health research. They are a politically and financially independent foundation.

Wellcome believes that all young people, regardless of their background, should be able to access, engage with and participate in fun and enjoyable science. This includes being able to explore science out of school, in informal settings with youth workers and volunteers. They are delighted to be working with BBC Children in Need to help support the youth sector to explore how it might do more science with young people.
