The Let Teachers SHINE competition is now open for applications to encourage teachers to turn their great ideas into reality.
LTS grants are awarded to launch and pilot projects from the classroom, which are centred on supporting economically disadvantaged children to flourish at school.
LTS grants offer free access to a range of development opportunities, helping you to get the best out of your ideas.
Let Teachers SHINE offers up to £25,000 over two years to teachers with brilliant ideas to help disadvantaged children in the North of England succeed in English, maths or science.
Essential Criteria
They will shortlist applications that:
- are led by a qualified teacher working in a school in the North of England or the teacher is firmly committed to their project being rolled out in the North of England
- show innovation: they want to see exciting and inspiring projects. Show us how your idea is different, or an improvement on what is currently practised
- target economically disadvantaged children aged 0-18 (they use Pupil Premium eligibility as a general indicator of economic disadvantage)
- present projects that can be tested to have impact at class, year, or school level and if successful, can be shared and embedded easily, (for example working with higher student numbers, or in other schools or in other areas) especially across the North
- focus on raising academic achievement levels especially in core subjects (English, maths & science)
- sustained over time (rather than a ‘one off’) and can show potential improvements in educational outcomes over time.
- have the backing of your school and leadership team.

They will look favourably on applications that:
- have a plan in place for growing the project beyond the initial grant
- are supported by the available educational research
- show consideration has been made to the realistic costs associated with the project.
Ineligible
They will not fund:
- projects that are based out of the North of England or that do not have any plans to scale or develop in the North of England in future
- projects that do not focus on working with disadvantaged children (PP)
- capital-build projects including refurbishments, gardens, libraries and transport
- projects where more than 50% of the budget is to be spent on equipment. including books and technology
- after-school clubs/holiday clubs that don’t link to our curriculum priorities
- one-off projects that can’t show a long term link to attainment (summer schools, drop- clubs etc).
