Deadline: 15-Nov-2025
The Community Access Ability Program provides cost-sharing grants to help communities improve accessibility and inclusiveness in public spaces and services.
The program supports projects that remove barriers and enhance accessibility in areas such as the built environment, education, employment, goods and services, information and communication, and transportation. Each approved project may receive up to $50,000 in funding.
Eligible applicants include registered non-profit organizations, such as community halls, legions, churches, daycares, shelters, recreation facilities, events, and trail associations, as well as municipalities, towns, villages, First Nations communities, social enterprises, and public institutions like libraries, museums, schools, hospitals, and post-secondary institutions. To qualify, applicants must primarily operate for the benefit of the broader community, promote cultural and social inclusion, and either own the property where the project will take place or hold a long-term lease of at least five years.
Funding from the program cannot be used for federally or provincially owned buildings, for-profit businesses (which are directed to the Business Access Ability Program), or private residences. Additionally, organizations that received funding from the 2025 Community Access Ability Program are not eligible to apply again during this cycle.
This initiative plays an essential role in building more equitable and inclusive communities by supporting practical improvements that make public spaces, programs, and services accessible to everyone, particularly people with disabilities. Through collaborative community efforts, the program promotes independence, participation, and social inclusion across Nova Scotia.
