Deadline: 07-Aug-2025
The Aspen Institute Germany has launched the Future Cities Go Glocal Initiative to address major urban challenges such as climate change, energy security, migration, social justice, and inadequate infrastructure. This initiative seeks to promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing between city stakeholders from Berlin, New Delhi, Nairobi, and Mexico City.
The program aims to foster new networks, share best practices, and develop policy recommendations that support sustainable and inclusive urban development. By encouraging dialogue across cities, the initiative reinforces the role of urban areas as key players in driving equitable and resilient societies. Participants will collectively explore ideas to promote social mobility, strengthen justice, improve integration and digital inclusion, and enhance acceptance of diversity.
The program includes both virtual and in-person activities. Participants will engage in approximately 12 interactive virtual meetings from October 2025 to April 2026. A 3.5-day in-person meeting will take place in Berlin in February or March 2026. The program will conclude with the publication of joint policy recommendations in June 2026 and a virtual closing conference.
Throughout the initiative, participants will study urban policies and innovations from each city, take part in site visits, and work together on solutions for common urban challenges. All travel, accommodation, and meal costs will be covered. Active participation and contribution to the final recommendations are expected.
Applicants must be involved in urban life in sectors such as business, politics, city planning, culture, media, academia, or other relevant fields. They must live or work in New Delhi, Nairobi, Berlin, or Mexico City and be capable of contributing to the publication and final event. Candidates should have expertise in city-related topics, including social justice or digitalization, possess a good command of English, and be enthusiastic about international exchange.
