Deadline: 31-Oct-2025
The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association is currently accepting proposals for its Regional Recreation Practitioner Program to benefit employing skilled Recreation Practitioners as a means of impacting the quality of life in all Saskatchewan communities.
Recognizing the importance of partnerships and the vital role that skilled professionals play in enhancing community well-being, the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) has introduced the Regional Recreation Practitioner (RRP) Program. This initiative is designed to support regional collaboration and ensure the sustainable delivery of high-quality recreation services across the province.
The RRP Program offers financial assistance to help service areas hire a full-time Recreation Practitioner. These professionals will be responsible for managing recreation services within a defined geographic area. Their work will include developing and enhancing local recreation systems, improving operations, supporting leadership bodies such as municipal or band councils, and helping to ensure recreation services are effectively planned and delivered.
To be eligible, a service area must consist of a partnership between at least two organizations. All partners must be either an Urban Municipality, Rural Municipality, First Nation, or Regional Park Authority. Each partner must submit a letter of support and commit a minimum of $5,000 per year toward the program. While equal contributions and benefits among partners are not required, proposals that clearly outline roles, expectations, communication strategies, and a shared commitment to the success of the initiative will be given priority.
Both new service areas looking to hire a Recreation Practitioner for the first time and those expanding existing recreation staff are welcome to apply. A key focus of the program is long-term sustainability, so applicants must also demonstrate how they plan to maintain the position after SPRA’s two-year funding term ends.
SPRA will contribute $25,000 annually for two years, from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027, to help offset the Recreation Practitioner’s salary. Payment schedules will be finalized based on the start date of the position.
Through the RRP Program, SPRA aims to strengthen regional collaboration, build capacity in recreation delivery, and improve quality of life in Saskatchewan communities.
