Deadline: 31-Oct-2025
Do you have a fun idea that brings your community together? The City of Guelph wants to hear it! Residents are invited to apply for the Activating Community Micro-Grant.
This program prioritizes projects that are led by individuals from diverse, marginalized groups, including those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, persons with disabilities, racialized individuals, and women. The aim is to build stronger relationships and a deeper sense of belonging within Guelph’s communities, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to participate in creative, community-driven initiatives.
The program offers two distinct types of micro-grants: the Activating Art Micro-Grant and the Activating Neighbourhood Micro-Grant, each designed to support different aspects of community building. The Activating Art Micro-Grant is aimed at both emerging and established artists in Guelph. It supports artistic projects that can be made publicly available, spanning all forms and practices of art. Whether it’s a public sculpture, mural, performance, or exhibition, these projects are intended to engage the public and make art accessible to all.
On the other hand, the Activating Neighbourhood Micro-Grant focuses on fostering connections within Guelph’s diverse neighbourhoods. Projects funded under this grant encourage creative and inclusive initiatives that bring people together, allowing them to participate in activities that celebrate their community. These projects are designed to help residents engage with their neighbours and create lasting bonds, fostering a stronger, more connected local environment.
Micro-grants range in value from $500 to $1,000, and applicants are welcome to apply for funding to support projects that are based in Guelph. To apply, individuals and groups must choose one of the two categories—either the arts or neighbourhood micro-grant—when submitting their application. Previous recipients of micro-grants in 2024 are eligible to apply again for funding in 2025, ensuring ongoing opportunities for those already engaged in community-building work.
Eligibility is broad, and applications are open to artists, individuals, collectives, grassroots groups, and incorporated not-for-profits with one full-time equivalent (FTE) or fewer. At least one member of the applying group or individual must be 18 years or older, although youth aged 16 and older are also eligible to apply for the Activating Art Micro-Grant. This inclusive approach ensures that both experienced artists and young creatives can access the funding they need to bring their ideas to life.
Overall, the Activating Community Micro-Grant program is a unique opportunity for residents of Guelph to engage in creative projects that strengthen community bonds and make art accessible to a wider audience. With no prior grant-writing experience required, the program ensures that anyone with a good idea has the chance to secure funding and contribute to the vibrancy of their neighbourhoods.
