Being part of the wider community of Tanzanians, WFT-Trust is currently working towards supporting its Grantees and other actors in the women/girls’ movements/sectors in the fight against the novel CORONA Virus and in addressing its impacts through different means. It is in line with this emergency situation that WFT-Trust is inviting Special Concept Notes from women and girls’ movement actors, Coalition membership, Current and Past grantees and the General Public.
Women Fund Tanzania-Trust (WFT-Trust) is a grant making women’s rights fund that was registered in September 2008 and changed by application of the law into a Trust Fund in September 2019. The Fund focuses on supporting rights-based initiatives that are working towards promoting women, girls and children rights. Alongside, the fund supporting capacity enhancement of WROs, networks and coalitions which leads to a strengthened girls and women’s movement in the country.
All Concept Notes must seek to address a need created by the COVID-19 crisis, and align with at least one of the following thematic risks:
- Rights advancing human dignity covering access to health, education and SRH information basic rights to various groups in the population, especially those from the marginal.
- Promotion of women rights/gender equality) and the empowerment of women, children and girls from the various sectors of their lives. Tracking and reporting on violations of rights women, girls and children and other marginalised groups as a result of their deterioration due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
- Livelihoods promotion, safeguarding and alleviation of stresses caused by different settings caused by COVID-19 including cultural violence, economic insecurities including food insecurity and loss of means of livelihoods.
- Violence against women, girls and children in times of COVID-19 pandemic, with a particular focus on innovative and empowering interventions addressing various including sexual corruption/sextortion exacerbated by the measures imposed because of the crisis in different settings.
Focus Areas
Concept notes can be around any of these focus areas for interventions:
- Innovative COVID-19 risk communication to vulnerable, marginalised and at-risk groups in societies such as PLWHAIDS and People Living with Disabilities (PWLD) caused by social dynamics and public health response. This may also include traditional and digital social media content development and streaming.
- Development of innovative strategies to combat misinformation, stigma, and fear for all groups but with a special focus on women, adolescent girls and children.
- Addressing cultural dimensions of the pandemic such as, examining how individuals and communities understand and react to the disease, including special attention to vulnerable groups.
- Novel ways of furthering education through e-learning/distance learning – Innovative ways of tapping into the educational needs of pupils and students so as to ensure continuity of education during lockdown or continued schools’ closures.
- Innovative use of hotlines and support call centres to reach out to marginalised and vulnerable groups.
- Alleviating risk of harm particularly to marginalised groups, especially girls and children who are at grave risk of harm as the COVID-19 pandemic threatens to devastate their education and health and leave them at risk of abuse.
- Strategies and interventions to mitigate heightened risk of violence in the home due to social distancing measures including being cut-off from essential protection services and vital support.
- Development and scaling up of child friendly multimedia COVID-19 awareness campaign messages to promote hygiene and handwashing in communities.
- Set up and operationalise social protection initiatives such as helplines/Hotlines to report violence for vulnerable girls and women.
- Develop or support community-based initiatives to provide access to health supplies and age-responsive health information for adolescent girls.
- Innovative ways of prevention of transmission of COVID-19 in vulnerable communities – particularly in refugee camps and among displaced populations – where the risks to girls and young women are particularly high.
- Developing concepts and interventions that address community impacts of COVID-19, from providing meals to elderly neighbours to launching digital mental health campaigns to support youth feeling isolated.
Funding Information
The amount that can be applied for should be between TSH 10,000,000 to TSH 30,000,000
Clarity on the issues to be addressed by the project:
- The concept note should ensure strong link between the problem to be addressed, the strategies and measurable results anticipated from the project.
- The proposal concept note should reflect innovative interventions towards building partnerships between women’s rights organizations in different sectors of the movement with the purpose of forming/strengthening functional networks, coalitions and platforms in the context of COVID-19 pandemic.
- The proposal should demonstrate suitability in context of COVID-19 pandemic, innovativeness, replicability and potential to demonstrate and document models that can be taken to larger scale.
