Nominations are now open for the Dan David Prize to recognize and encourage innovative and interdisciplinary research that cuts across traditional boundaries and paradigms.
It aims to foster universal values of excellence, creativity, justice, democracy, and progress and to promote the scientific, technological, and humanistic achievements that advance and improve our world.
The Dan David Prize is an international award, endowed by the Dan David Foundation and headquartered at Tel Aviv University.
Selected Fields 2021
Past – History of Health And Medicine
- Illness and health have always invoked strong emotions and, since the dawn of humanity, our ancestors have cared for the sick and disabled.
- Health and illness are a universal reality, but manifest as individual experiences, impacted and filtered by religion, race, age, gender, ethnicity, social status, and other factors. Through these lenses, we are able to document, reconstruct, and understand the reality of multitudes and not merely the exceptional few for whom documentation survives.
Present – Public Health
- Public health is a wide-ranging discipline aimed at improving health and preventing disease and disability. Its goals, which focus on entire populations rather than individuals, are achieved by promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and preventing, detecting and responding to infectious diseases. Public health also works to limit health disparities by promoting healthcare equity, quality and accessibility.
- Traditionally, infectious diseases have been the prime public health concern in much of the developing world, while challenges associated with aging, chronic diseases and cancer have been prioritized elsewhere. Yet, the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic demonstrates that emerging infectious agents can constitute a major threat worldwide.
Future – Molecular Medicine
- Molecular medicine is a multidisciplinary field that incorporates techniques from physics, chemistry, biology, bioinformatics, and medicine to bridge the gap between basic science on the molecular level and medical practice. It focuses on the discovery of molecular mechanisms of disease pathogenesis, which can be exploited for the development of new diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive tools for the benefit of humanity.
- The concept of molecular medicine dates back to the late 1940s; however, the completion of the human genome project propelled molecular medicine to the forefront of the health-tech ecosystem.
Criteria
- Nominees for the Dan David Prize may be individuals or organizations.
- The individual or institution being nominated has made a singular achievement or a series of achievements and continues to make a unique, profound contribution to humanity, on a global scale, in one of the selected fields for the year in which the nomination is being made.
- The Dan David Prize is granted according to merit, without discrimination based on gender, race, religion, nationality, or political affiliation.
- Joint nominations of up to 3 candidates may be submitted.
- An individual or organization can only receive the Dan David Prize once for the same achievement and/or contribution.
- Anyone can nominate an individual or organization for the Dan David Prize. The only restriction is self-nomination.
- Self-nominations, including nominations for organizations in which the nominator is currently employed or serves as an officer, are not accepted.
- Prize winners are required to participate in the Award Ceremony and the Attendant Events.

- The Nomination Form and all documentation must be submitted in English only.

- A detailed description of the nominee’s work (1-2 pages), stipulating reasons why the nominee merits the Dan David Prize. Reference should be made to the importance of the work, its impact and its projected influence in the relevant field.
- A full Curriculum Vitae of the nominee or a detailed prospectus when nominating an organization (if available)
- A list of the nominee’s most relevant publications or projects stating full bibliographical details (if available).
Joint Nominations
- The Dan David Prize accepts joint nominations of up to three candidates.
- To complete this nomination, each of the nominees’ personal and professional details are required, together with a summary and detailed description of their joint work.
