Applications are now open for the Summer Széll Kálmán Public Policy Fellowship – a full scholarship for students from Hungary to participate in the Fund for American Studies summer programs in Washington, DC.
The two-month summer program includes an internship placement in Washington DC, academic credit from George Mason University, housing in the heart of DC on George Washington University’s campus, a variety of guest lectures and briefings, as well as opportunities for professional development and networking.
Participants will gain hands-on experience through internships, earn six transferable academic credits from George Mason University, and live in furnished housing on George Washington University’s campus.
Funded by the Hungary Foundation, the Széll Kálmán Public Policy Fellowship covers full tuition, housing, and a living stipend to support meals and personal expenses throughout the stay in the United States.
TFAS’ summer programs in Washington, DC, give students firsthand experience with the American system of government through academic learning, internships, and networking opportunities from May 30 to July 25, 2026.
Participants live on George Washington University’s campus, take accredited courses at George Mason University, intern about 30 hours per week with leading organizations, and attend lectures, briefings, and events with policy experts and professionals across Washington.
Hungarian students can apply for full scholarships in three tracks—International Affairs, Public Policy and Economics, and Business and Government Relations. The fellowship is open to young Hungarian citizens who are currently enrolled at a Hungarian university or have recently graduated, at both B.A. and M.A. levels.
Selected Hungarian fellows will also be required to complete supplementary reading prior to arrival and engage in extracurricular discussions exploring the American government and the history of Hungarian-American relations.
