Join Google Summer of Code and contribute to the world of open source! Entries are now open for the Google Summer of Code Program.
This is an exciting opportunity for students and beginners to open source (18+) to gain real-world experience this summer. You will spend 12+ weeks coding, learning about open source development, and earn a competitive stipend under the guidance of experienced mentors.
Goals
- The GSoC program has several goals:
- Inspire developers to begin participating in open source development.
- Help open source projects identify and bring in new developers.
- Get more open source code written and released for the benefit of all.
- Give newer developers more exposure to real-world software development (for example, distributed development and version control, software licensing issues, testing, and communication best practices).
Eligibility Criteria
- Organizations
- To participate in the Program, an Organization must:
- Run an active and viable open source software project;
- Have already produced and released software under an Open Source Initiative (OSI)-approved license;
- Not be based in a United States embargoed country, or otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs.
- Organizations who wish to apply for acceptance into the Program must:
- Accept the terms of the Organization Agreement,
- Submit an Organization Application.
- To participate in the Program, an Organization must:
- Organization Administrators
- To participate in the Program, an Organization Administrator must:
- Be eighteen (18) years of age or older upon registration for the Program;
- Be a contributor to an active and viable open source project run by the Organization;
- Not be a GSoC Contributor in the Program.
- To participate in the Program, an Organization Administrator must:
- Mentors
- To participate in the Program, a Mentor must:
- Upon registration for the Program, be eighteen (18) years of age or older
- Be a contributor to an active and viable open source project run by the Organization; and
- Not be a GSoC Contributor in the Program.
- To participate in the Program, a Mentor must:
- GSoC Contributors
- To participate in the Program, a GSoC Contributor must:
- Be eighteen (18) years of age or older upon registration for the Program;
- For the duration of the Program, be eligible to work in the country in which they reside;
- Not be an Organization Administrator or Mentor in the Program;
- Be a student or a beginner to open source software development.
