The Gay Straight Alliance (GSA; Alliance) has announced that this year it will award a prize for its contribution to the fight against homophobia and transphobia and the protection and promotion of the human rights of LGBT people in Serbia.
Regardless of the fact that GSA is the initiator and organizer of the “Rainbow” award, they want to take into account the opinions and suggestions of as many organizations, institutions and individuals as possible every year through the award process. That is why they have established a public competition for nomination, and the award is given on the basis of the received nominations.
The award called “Rainbow” was established by the GSA in 2013 and it is awarded on the occasion of May 17 – International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) for contributions in the previous year.
Also, the award is decided by a special jury whose composition is partially or completely changed every year and when it consists of successful individuals from various fields, the winner of the previous award “Rainbow”, activists of GSA, but also activists of other organizations. dealing with LGBT rights.
GSA invites you to participate in as many as possible in this year’s competition for the award and they are sure that there are many among you who deserve the Rainbow!
Award Information
- When considering the received nominations, the jury will make a shortlist of 3 to 5 nominees, which will inform the public a few days before the award ceremony.
- The winner of the award will be announced at the earliest in the second half of June at an event organized for the occasion, at which the winner will be presented with a specially designed statue. When organizing this event and its concept, the organizers will be guided primarily by valid health measures and recommendations.
Who can be Nominated?
- All those who have contributed to the reduction of homophobia and transphobia, protection and promotion of human rights of LGBT people, improvement of the position and quality of their work, engagement, work and results from May 17, 2019 until the closing date of this competition can be nominated for the “Rainbow” award. life of LGBT people and the promotion of equality and tolerance towards the LGBT population.
- The award is given for contributions in Serbia, both at the national level and in local communities, cities, districts and the like.
- The award can be given for different areas of activity and the categories that can be included in the nomination are:
- institutions and sectors / services within institutions (state and local government institutions, educational and academic institutions, cultural institutions, health and social institutions, independent regulatory institutions , etc.);
- domestic and international organizations;
- political factors (political parties, movements, politicians);
- domestic and foreign companies and firms and public companies;
- media, media workers, production companies, etc .;
- professional associations and trade unions;
- individuals (as representatives of the above categories or independently);
- groups of citizens.
Who can Nominate and In What Way?
- All of the above categories may submit their own nominations or may nominate someone else.
- Each nomination for the “Rainbow” award must contain basic information about the nominee and the nominee, as well as the explanation of the nomination.
