The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on International Child Health (SOICH) is seeking proposals for its International Community Access to Child Health (ICATCH) grants program which are designed for pediatricians and other health workers in low- and lower-middle income countries who need financial and advisory support to plan and implement a project or program that provides clinical care to children or adolescents, provides health education for children, or provides training for health care providers.
ICATCH grants emphasize:
- Partnerships with governmental and/or nongovernmental agencies or groups (such as public health centers, schools, faith-based groups or local businesses)
- Sustainability and growth of the program beyond the funding period
- Expansion of successful strategies to other communities or regions
Funding Information
Funding is $2000 per year for 3 years.
Specific Areas of Child Health
For this grant cycle, ICATCH will only accept applications from those whose work is in one of the following areas:
- Maternal and infant health (infants under 1 year of age)
- This is a broad category and includes any interventions, innovations, clinical care or educational or training programs that improve maternal and/or infant morbidity and mortality.
- Childhood injury prevention
- This category includes programs that address the underlying environmental, behavioral or social causes of childhood injury, particularly (but not limited to) educational programs geared toward caregivers. Programs with specific interventions that can be taught, replicated and sustained are encouraged.
- Gender-related health issues
- Broadly, this category includes gender-specific healthcare (directed toward girls or boys), reproductive healthcare (for girls or boys), as well as health issues related to gender or sexual orientation.
- Many health problems are influenced or caused by gender related issues. Projects that help raise awareness of these issues among health care workers, or community education projects that help encourage pediatric and adolescent patients to discuss and address gender related health issues are encouraged.
Funding Eligibility
- Proposals will only be accepted from those whose work is in one of the above 3 areas of child health
- Program must take place in a low- or low-middle income country (see the list below)
- Project Director must live and work near the target community
- Proposals should provide or improve clinical care or health education and training; ICATCH does not fund research projects.
Criteria
Preliminary Applications are accepted from pediatricians as well as from other medical doctors, surgeons, nurses, midwives, health workers, social workers, dentists, physical therapists or anyone who provides health care or health education for children and youth.
