The London Marathon Charitable Trust has launched its Active Spaces Fund for projects that will improve and activate spaces, places and facilities in London that will help the least active children and young people and marginalised groups and communities to lead active and healthy lives.
Funding Information
- They expect most funding requests to be between £5,000 and £50,000.
What Can You Apply For?
- You can apply for capital or revenue funding that will improve and activate spaces, places and facilities to help their target groups lead active and healthy lives.
- Examples of capital projects they may fund include:
- One or more of the 32 London Boroughs and the City of London
- Building or renovating facilities
- Creating or renovating play spaces
- Improving public or community spaces so they can deliver physical activity (e.g., local parks, open spaces, community halls or gyms)
- Purchasing new or replacement equipment
- Purchasing new or replacement equipment
- Examples of revenue projects they may fund include:
- Existing projects and activities
- New or extended staff posts to enable activation of spaces
- Coaching costs
- Venue hire
- Administrative costs relating to the project
Eligible Activities
- They will provide funding for a range of activities and projects:
- They recognise the value of all kinds of physical activity, from team sports like football and rugby, to individual activities like running and swimming, and other ways of being active like play, dance, walking and gardening.
- They will provide funding for capital and/or revenue projects, including building or renovating facilities, purchasing new or replacement equipment, venue hire, and new/extended staff posts.
Target Groups And/Or Communities
- By marginalised communities, they mean groups and communities that have been marginalised, discriminated against and/or underserved by opportunities, preventing them from leading active lives. This may include, but isn’t limited to, groups excluded because of their race, disability, gender, sexual orientation, age, language and/or socioeconomic status.
Outcomes
- Through the Active Spaces Fund, they aim to:
- Create more opportunities for the least active children and young people in London to be active
- Diversify participation in physical activity in London by supporting marginalised groups and communities to be active
- Help the organisations they fund to embed Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and sustainability commitments into their work.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following groups and organisations can apply:
- Community and voluntary sector organisations
- Community enterprises
- Educational establishments
- Faith centres
- Local authorities
- Registered charities
- Schools or statutory bodies
- Sports clubs
- Unincorporated associations
- All projects need to take place at spaces, places and facilities that will be open for the wider community to use (e.g., a school project needs to be open for the community to use and not just students).
- To apply to this fund, projects must:
- Provide opportunities for the least active children and young people and/or marginalised groups and communities to be active
- Improve and/or activate spaces, places and facilities
- Take place in London (defined by the borough boundaries).
- Individuals
- Organisations and groups that are set up to make a profit for private distribution
- Organisations and groups delivering outside of London.
- The Active Spaces Fund is only open to organisations supporting communities in the 32 London Boroughs and City of London.
