The Magpies Community Grants, a Magpies Sporting Club initiative is providing financial assistance 4 times a year to winning applicants within 3 grant categories.
Since its inception in 2022 they’ve proudly granted a total of $74,700 cash to talented local athletes and impactful charities!
Grant Categories
- Local Sporting Champions Grant
- The grants will allow up to a maximum of $1,750 in financial assistance over the 3 sporting event tiers, once a year. Eligible applicants can apply for 1 sporting event per tier, once a year.
- Example a) if an applicant attends a state and international event in 2024, they are able to apply for a national event without waiting a year. b) if the applicant applies for all 3 event tiers in 2024 they must wait until 2025 before being eligible again.
- The following grants are available under 3 sporting event tiers:
- Queensland sporting event —$250
- National sporting event—$500
- International sporting event—$1,000
- Time to Shine – Women In Sport Grant
- The grants will allow up to a maximum of $1,750 in financial assistance over the 3 sporting event tiers, once a year. Eligible applicants can apply for 1 sporting event per tier, once a year.
- Example a) If an applicant attends a Queensland or International event in 2024, they are eligible to apply for a National event without waiting a year. B) A successful applicant in 2024 must wait until 2025 before being eligible again for that same event tier.

- Thriving Communities Grant
- The grant will allow up to a maximum of $1,000 in financial assistance per organisation, once a year for different projects, programs or initiatives.
- Eligible Projects
- Projects, programs or initiatives with a charitable purpose can apply for this grant. Examples of the kinds of projects, programs or initiatives that may receive grants include:
- education/training
- emergency systems
- mental health support
- improving infrastructure
- purchase of equipment
- urban greening
- reducing climate risk

Eligibility Criteria
- Local Sporting Champions Grant/Time to Shine – Women In Sport Grant
- Applicants that are eligible to apply for this grant are those who:
- have competed or officiated (as an athlete, coach, referee or scorer) at a Queensland, National or International sporting event
- are residents of Mackay (6 months post sporting event)
- have participation at the sporting event confirmed by a coach, manager or sports governing body
- have not received funding under the same sporting event tier of the same grant in the same calendar year
- complete and submit the application within 6 months post the sporting event
- Applicants that are eligible to apply for this grant are those who:
- Thriving Communities Grant
- Charities, groups, social enterprises, schools or organisations:
- who are based in Mackay
- whose project, program or initiative will directly benefit the Mackay community
- that have not received funding under this grant tier for the same project, program or initiative in the previous calendar year
