The Moonee Valley City Council is inviting applications for the Biannual Community Grants to provide grants to community organisations, groups, individuals, and local businesses contributing to the health and wellbeing of the municipality.
Program Aims
- The Biannual Community Grants Program aims to:
- Improve the community’s quality of life and the liveability of Moonee Valley.
- Help the community to achieve the goals outlined in the long-term plans and strategies.
- Address community needs and make the most of unique local opportunities and strengths.
- Foster and strengthen community involvement, participation, and community-led initiatives.
- Contribute to the social, cultural, economic, and environmental wellbeing of the local community.
Biannual Community Grant Streams
- Biannual Community Grants include the following streams:
- First Peoples Grants: Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and organisations to deliver local projects.
- Social Support Grants: Operational funding for small social support groups run by volunteers.
- Community Projects Grants: One-off community projects, pilot programs and small capital works.
- Climate Action Grants: Renewable energy transitions and community projects promoting climate resilience.
- Arts and Events Grants: Arts projects and events or festivals that benefit the Moonee Valley community.
- Business Projects Grants: Small storefront and outdoor space beautification and inclusion or collaboration projects.

- Enhance awareness, celebration, and engagement with Aboriginal culture and language.
- Address discrimination and racism.
- Pillar 2: Awareness and engagement
- Promote partnerships across community and government.

- Amplify Aboriginal voices and develop community leadership.

- Support the growth of Aboriginal businesses and employment opportunities.

- Improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal People.
- Pillar 1: Culture, respect and trust
- Social Support:
- The Social Support Grant provides operational support to small volunteer-run community groups that provide opportunities for social connections and share information with the community but have limited ability to raise funds.
- Community Projects:
- The Community Projects Grant supports community groups and organisations to deliver projects aligned to one or more of the five themes (Fair, Thriving, Connected, Green and Beautiful) identified in Council’s MV2040 Strategy that respond to:
- Strengthening wellbeing across the city, particularly for target populations noted in MV2040.
- Increasing community participation and access to information and services.
- The Community Projects Grant supports community groups and organisations to deliver projects aligned to one or more of the five themes (Fair, Thriving, Connected, Green and Beautiful) identified in Council’s MV2040 Strategy that respond to:
- Climate Action:
- Climate Action Grants support community groups to help reach the target of zero net emissions for the community by 2040 through projects that work to:
- Reduce emissions and energy costs through energy efficient transitions.
- Recognise and respond to the climate emergency and support community climate advocacy.
- Climate Action Grants support community groups to help reach the target of zero net emissions for the community by 2040 through projects that work to:
- Arts and Events:
- Arts and Events Grants support and build capacity for Moonee Valley’s local creative sector to thrive through the delivery of community-focused arts projects and events.
- Business Projects:
- Business Projects Grants help the local businesses with projects that benefit the wider community, contribute to the vibrancy of the public precincts, encourage local patronage and support collaboration of the local businesses.
Funding Information
- First Peoples: Up to $10,000 funding available for eligible applicants. One grant per financial year is available to each applicant across all Rounds and Streams.
- Social Support: Up to $1,500 funding available for eligible applicants. One grant per financial year is available to each applicant across all Rounds and Streams.
- Community Projects: Up to $10,000 funding available for eligible applicants. One grant per financial year is available to each applicant across all Rounds and Streams.
- Climate Action: Two sub-streams of funding are available; Energy Transition and Urban Greening and Climate Resilience. Up to $10,000 funding is available for eligible Energy Transition applicants, and up to $2,000 is available for eligible Urban Greening and Climate Resilience applicants.
- Arts and Events: Up to $10,000 funding available for eligible applicants.
- Business Projects: Up to $5,000 funding available for eligible applicants.
Who is eligible to apply?
- First Peoples:
- First Peoples who live, work, or connect within Moonee Valley
- First People-led organisations or businesses with a demonstrated connection to Moonee Valley. If the organisation or business is not incorporated or does not have an ABN, they will need to apply with an auspice.
- Social Support, Community Projects and Climate Action:
- Not-for-profit community groups and organisations that are:
- Incorporated or supported by an auspice and
- based and/or delivering services within Moonee Valley.
- Not-for-profit community groups and organisations that are:
- Arts and Events:
- Community groups.
- Not-for-profit organisations.
- Individuals (with an auspice).
- Business Projects:
- The following entities with an Australian Business Number (ABN), located and operating in the Moonee Valley municipality:
- Business and Sole Traders (less than 50 equivalent full-time staff).
- Trader Associations.
- Social Enterprises
- The following entities with an Australian Business Number (ABN), located and operating in the Moonee Valley municipality:
