British Council’s Call for Research Proposals on Education, Peace and Stability

British Council is seeking proposals from experts who can provide a high-level horizon scan of the research and evidence on the role that education can play in fostering security, peace and stability globally.

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. They create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. The British Council do this by making a positive contribution to the UK and the countries work with  changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust.

Education is an important part of the global debate on how to foster security, peace and stability. Academic research shows that it can play a role in reducing internal conflict, by promoting inclusion, strengthening social cohesion, developing a more engaged citizenry and increasing economic productivity. Education can also benefit inter-state relations, by promoting positive cooperation and dialogue during times of diplomatic tension.

Eligibility Criteria

Individuals, institutions, consortia or research agencies with an interest in research on education, conflict and peace, including from a development or international relations perspective.
