The Cooperation and Cultural Action Department of the French Embassy in Egypt has set up a support mechanism for Egyptian civil society organizations (CSOs): the PISCCA Fund (Innovative projects of civil societies and coalitions of actors).
The fund supports projects implemented by Egyptian civil society actors working directly to combat discrimination and violence against women or constituting important levers to reduce women’s vulnerability.
Building the capacities of local civil society involves two components; one concerning the financing of civil society organisations, the other relating to their training and networking.
Themes
- While making sure to propose activities that are specific to their experience and their core business, the projects must be related to the following themes:
- Support and accompaniment of women victims of discrimination and violence, for example:
- Legal assistance to women victims
- Listening units and psychological follow-up
- Shelters for women victims of violence and their children
- Advocacy
- Awareness raising and deconstruction of socio-cultural discourses that contribute to the normalization of discrimination and violence, for example:
- Fight against sexist clichés
- Awareness raising and training on the legislation in place, the rights recognized to women in the constitution and the laws, the sanctions foreseen in case of excision, forced marriage, harassment etc.
- Awareness raising on cyber harassment/harassment in public transport/public spaces.
- Access to health and essential care, for example:
- Medical consultations for women victims of violence
- Training of doctors in the care of women victims of female genital mutilation
- Awareness raising on sexual violence
- Family planning
- Women’s economic empowerment, for example:
- Supporting professional integration and access to decent jobs
- Encourage the development of skills in sectors that are not yet accessible to women and combat stereotypes and discrimination in hiring
- Promote female entrepreneurship
- Support and accompaniment of women victims of discrimination and violence, for example:
Funding Information
- The grant amounts to be between 10,000 and 30,000 Euros.
Duration
- Maximum 2 years.
- It should be noted that projects must be completed by 30 April 2025 at the latest.
Eligibility Criteria
- Organizations must meet a number of mandatory eligibility criteria:
- Egyptian associations and NGOs registered at the Ministry of Social Solidarity;
- Associations, NGOs and companies with a legal existence of at least one year (official Egyptian document in support);
- Egyptian associations and NGOs that have already carried out concrete activities in the sector for which funding is requested;
- Organizations who are able to cover 10% of the total amount of the project (the valuing of Human Resources time in kind or credit is accepted). Self-financing or co-financing from other partners is also possible.
- Organizations run by and/or with women members will be strongly encouraged. The innovative nature of the proposed projects will also be valued.
