Are you an organisation interested in the future of craft in India? Would you like to contribute to the development and innovation of one of the world’s largest craft sectors? If yes, then apply for the India-UK Collaboration Scheme and receive financial support to collaborate with craft communities in India, co-develop and co-deliver projects that support the craft sector and create long term partnerships with organisations that support the same vision.
The grants are designed to provide Indian and UK organisations the opportunity to collaborate to:
- Design and deliver a 12-14-month ambitious, creative programme that develops and strengthens crafts sector in India, and providing models of practice and collaboration which could strengthen the craft sector globally;
- Focus on long term projects that have the potential to run for two to three years with the opportunity to reapply for further funding of this programme in years two and three;
- Collaborate with international partners, who may offer new perspectives, networks and services;
- Diversify, scale and/or strengthen their organisations’ existing work by strengthening partnerships within the ecosystem in their own country as well as internationally.
Themes
Funded projects should fall under one of the following 5 themes:
- What are new ecosystems for craft? How can traditional skills, contemporary design and enterprise come together to create new systems?
- How can craft be a route to women’s empowerment and leadership?
- How can craft address global environmental challenges?
- How can craft tourism ensure craft is widely appreciated?
- What possibilities does digital technology bring to craft?
The grants will be jointly awarded to a partnership of two organisations – an organisation in India and a compatible UK organisation. The grants will be awarded to develop the collaboration and deliver interventions to strengthen the creative and crafts sector in India. The CF Fund will help to expand and strengthen international networks and opportunities for organisations in both India and the UK. It is the sole responsibility of the interested institutions to find their counter applicant and British Council will support this by providing a portal for submitting their expression of interest only. British Council will not be involved in matching these institutions.
Funding Information
- The Collaboration Scheme grants will be for amounts of £10,000 or £20,000 per successful application depending on the application output, scope of work and impact. The funds will be shared by applicants according to the budget proposed in the application (the grant does not need to be split equally between Indian and UK partners).
- Projects should be co-developed and co-delivered over a 12-14-month period and be completed no later than March 2021.
- Funding can be used to cover:
- Planning and development of the project
- Programme activities, including:
- Artist/Craftsperson fees
- Commissions
- Digital platforms
- Materials
- Publications, film and other media
- Venues
- Staff costs
- Travel costs to UK and/or India, including flights, accommodation, subsistence, visas, etc.
- Costs for reasonable adjustments, including communications, accessible transport, accommodation, personal assistant support and other access requirements agreed with the Crafting Futures Programme Manager
- Translation costs
- In Addition:
- As a general guide, they anticipate that staff costs should be no more than 30 per cent of the total project budget;
- Applicants are encouraged to contribute a portion of staff time as an in-kind contribution;
- Applicants are encouraged to leverage funds from other sources including match funding from their own organisation or an external funding source; and
- One grant contract will be awarded to the partner in India and administered by the British Council India.
Eligibility Criteria
Each proposal must meet the following criteria:
- Have a Primary Applicant from India and a Secondary Applicant from the UK. Only joint applications will be considered.
- Applicants must be organisations, such as:
- Associations cooperatives/unions of artisans/craft councils
- Government bodies/ministries
- Social enterprises or independent organisation in the craft sector
- Universities, educational institutes, technical or vocational schools with craft or design specialisms
- NGOs/not-for-profits/charities
- Museums or other cultural heritage bodies
- Media platforms (traditional and/or digital)
- Projects must take place in India.
The Primary Applicant (Indian partner) must also:
- Sign the contract with the British Council;
- Have the capacity to administer the grant, sub-contract and make payment to the Secondary
- Applicant in the UK, and submit a financial report to British Council at the end of the project; and
- Be responsible for securing the correct visa into India and/or the UK. The British Council does not accept any responsibility for dealing with any visa requirements and will only have the capacity to issue visa letters directly related to the project.
The following cannot apply:
- British Council staff
- Funding bodies
- Proposals for retrospective projects (anything prior to December 2019)
