The Neelan Tiruchelvam Trust is pleased to announce its call for proposals: “Multilevel Approaches to Address the Polycrisis” in Sri Lanka.
This call for proposals seeks to respond to the polycrisis in Sri Lanka, and to mitigate its impact on marginalized and vulnerable communities and to strengthen their resilience.
Program Areas
- The proposals are expected to present interventions crafted to promote and protect food security; improve access to education for children and young people in order to promote greater social mobility; improve access to justice at all levels; and to promote democratic and accountable governance. This call for proposal has four categories.
- For each category the type of projects/activities that may be supported include, but are not restricted to:
- Category 01: Promoting and protecting food security (target group: women)
- Introducing and strengthening high yield agriculture practices for small-scale farmers.
- Introducing and strengthening sustainable fishing practices for small-scale fishers.
- Strengthening food production systems in local communities and thereby improving resilience against external shocks: e.g., analyzing local food production systems based on existing resources and providing support to strengthen them, creating and strengthening market linkages.
- Strengthening and improving traditional farming and fishing methods, sharing of knowledge and practices across communities.
- Category 02: Engaging children and youth in social transformation
- Introducing and strengthening existing sustainable school meals programs in vulnerable communities.
- Improving the access of young people from urban and non-urban marginalized and vulnerable communities to vocational training. E.g., supporting vocational training programs.
- Category 03: Improving access to justice and protection.
- Initiatives that seek to ensure vulnerable and marginalized communities have equitable access to healthcare and social security – including LQBTQI persons, children, elderly, HIV/AIDS patients and families, women heads of households (WHH), sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) survivors, sex workers.
- Criminal justice reform efforts, access to bail and early release.
- Strategies to promote ethical media reporting related to marginalized and vulnerable communities, such as ethno-religious minorities and the LGBTIQ community.
- Support to combat gender- and sexual-based violence, including against the LGBTQI community.
- Category 04: Promoting democratic and accountable governance.
- Advocacy and research promoting democratic and accountable governance.
- Investigative and citizen journalism.
- Initiatives that further fundamental rights.
- Fact checking and analysis, myth busting and fighting fake news, mis and disinformation, including with the use of Right to Information (RTI) and investigative and citizen journalism.
- Category 01: Promoting and protecting food security (target group: women)
Funding Information and Duration
- NTT will award grants ranging from LKR 3,000,000 to LKR 7,000,000. The anticipated grant duration is 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only one application per organization can be submitted.
- Proposals can cover multiple categories. If so, it should be clearly mentioned on the cover page and on the email subject line, which categories the proposals fall under.
- Eligible grant recipients include registered community-based organizations (CBOs), local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local not-for-profit organizations, registered youth groups, registered federations, registered cooperatives, etc.
- Applicants should demonstrate prior experience in implementing similar activities.
- Organizations without a valid registration will not be considered.
- Sub-granting is not allowed.
- Grant applications from individuals will not be accepted.
- Organizations with ongoing grants with NTT can apply for this call for proposal. If successful, the new grant will commence only when the existing grant is concluded.
- NTT will not consider applications received from government institutions/departments and organizations with political affiliations.
