Under the present Call for Proposals, to enhance participation of young women into different decision-making spaces that affect their lives and to increase their voice and agency for gender equality, UN Women is envisaging to provide support to a programme targeting specifically young women and young women activists.
The primary aim of the program will be to identify the needs and perspectives of young women and strengthen their capacities in terms of their political and civic organizing and creating safe spaces for them to engage with each other and build solidarity amongst themselves.
Description of required services/results
- UN Women requests submission of proposals for initiatives/interventions from CSOs focusing on the issue of civic participation of young women and male engagement specifically at the local levels. The applicant organizations should refer to the following tasks associated with Output.
- Output 1: “A youth advisory group and discussion events bringing young women together including dialogue with men and boys are organized and trainings are provided to young women to boost their solidarity as well as to increase their voice and agency for gender equality within civic spaces at local level.
- Task 1: Devise a participatory process and create platforms bringing together young women to enhance young women’s civic engagement to improve conditions for gender equality at the local level. The activities pertaining to this Task should be implemented at least in three different municipalities and at the grassroots level.
- Selected partner will implement a participatory process, identify factors shaping the current daily lives and priorities of young women at the local level in relation to gender equality. The participatory process should also aim to collect young women’s future aspirations for a gender equal society.
- Design and implement a process which will include activities creating safe spaces for young women at the local level to discuss their perspectives and needs in terms of their civic engagement and political organizing for gender equality.
- Based on the outcomes of the participatory process and the discussion activities, identify possible capacity gaps among young women and youth led CSOs which prevent young women to engage in civic initiatives on gender equality and decision-making processes and organize capacity-building activities targeting young women.
- Based on the outcomes of the participatory process and the discussion activities, explore and implement nontraditional tools and innovative methods bringing together young women and established CSOs and the women’s movement and to enhance intergenerational dialogue.
- Task 2: Create mechanisms to engage specifically with young men to explore and challenge predominant notions of masculinities
- Selected partner will develop increased capacities to engage in gender equality advocacy, particularly addressing harmful masculinity.
- Dialogue platform will be established, bringing together young men and women to discuss harmful masculinity and its impact on communities and also will serve as a space for sharing experiences and developing joint action plans to promote positive masculinity and gender equality.
- A comprehensive strategy will be co-created with the youth organization to guide gender equality efforts, specifically targeting the transformation of gender norms among young men.
- Output 1: “A youth advisory group and discussion events bringing young women together including dialogue with men and boys are organized and trainings are provided to young women to boost their solidarity as well as to increase their voice and agency for gender equality within civic spaces at local level.
Funding Information
- The budget range for this proposal should be equivalent to minimum USD 120,000 and maximum USD 150,000
Timeframe
- Indicative start date: March 2025
- Indicative end date: June 2026
- The period of implementation shall be minimum 12 and maximum 15 months.
Competencies
- The applicants must be civil society organizations, i.e. associations or foundations legally established and operating in Türkiye. Initiatives or platforms that do not have a legal entity/official registration are not eligible to apply.
- International non-governmental organizations that do not have a legal entity/official registration in Türkiye are not eligible.
- Municipalities, cooperatives, international organizations, companies, private or public universities, unions or individuals are not eligible applicants.
- Technical/functional competencies required:
- The applicants as a civil society organization must have been in operation for at least five (5) years. In exceptional circumstances three (3) years of history registration may be accepted and it must be fully justified. These provisions will be strictly observed by the Evaluation Committee.
- Track record of experience in the field of youth rights, youth engagement specifically engagement with young women, women’s human rights, gender equality, women’s empowerment
- Specialized knowledge and expertise in the field that the proposal is submitted under, especially expertise in implementing participatory process at the local and grassroots level.
- Experience in engaging with multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to governmental and nongovernmental organizations, community-based organizations and advocacy networks, private sector, academia, etc.
