The Community Foundation is inviting applications for the Ultach Fund to support the work of communities across Northern Ireland who wish to use and promote the Irish language, through the work of registered charities, voluntary and community groups.
Fund is managed and administered by the Community Foundation which is delighted to continue to fund grass roots community and voluntary groups to promote the Irish language.
Funding Information
- Grants Available: Up to £2,000
- In exceptional circumstances the panel may decide to award larger grants, at their discretion, and in line with the current criteria.
Eligible Projects
- Projects that promote and encourage the use of the Irish language at community level.
- Priority is given to projects that promote the active use of and/or engagement with the Irish language.
- Projects that demonstrate cross-community aspects and/or reach new audiences.
- Projects that use innovative creative approaches.
- Venue hire costs are eligible, however cannot exceed more than 15% of the total grant.
Types of Projects
Promotion of the Irish language through, but are not limited to:
- Irish language classes for adults and/or children.
- Irish language social events for adults and/or children.
- Production of Irish language learning or awareness resources.
- Family-centered projects.
- Irish language-based arts activities for school children.
Topics could include, but are not limited to:
- A range of Irish language classes for adult learners of Irish.
- Irish language awareness events, i.e. talks and presentations on various aspects of Irish language and culture.
- Irish language conversation circles.
- Irish language social events which promote opportunities to use the Irish language.
- Irish language resources for adult learners of Irish.
Eligibility Criteria
The fund is open to registered charities and constituted grass roots community and voluntary groups based in Northern Ireland. Priority is given to applications from small groups, typically with an annual revenue income of less than £250,000 (excluding capital income), as evidenced in the most recent set of accounts. Priority is given to Irish language organizations, should the fund be oversubscribed.
