DFID Malawi Justice and VAWG: Strengthening Communities to Prevent Gender Based Violence and Violence against Children

Open Call: Feminist Events Dedicated to the National Day Against Domestic Violence

Deadline: 7 February 2017

DFID Malawi is planning a six year (2017-2023) Strengthening Access to Justice and VAWG Prevention programme designed to strengthen the capacities of communities and institutions to prevent and respond to Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Violence against Children (VAC) and to improve the accessibility, responsiveness and accountability of the justice system for women and girls living with violence.

The programme will comprise two distinct but inter-linked phases. During the initial 3-year phase (2017-2020) a comprehensive community-led GBV and VAC prevention and justice response package will require development to use as a piloting approach. This package of interventions would help to shift social norms that underpin GBV and VAC and help to ensure improved justice outcomes for women and child survivors. This approach will allow learning and evidence to be drawn out about which combinations of interventions are most effective in achieving programme outcomes and impact in different Malawian contexts. Over the programme’s second phase (2020-2023), the interventions which have been most effective in reducing GBV and VAC and securing access to justice in different Malawian contexts during the first phase will be rolled out in other districts of Malawi.

Funds Available

The programme will support applicants with approximately £19m.
