The Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) is seeking applications for Economic Development Grants Program to support initiatives which enable communities to create more prosperous local economies.
SMIF seeks applications that support economic development and entrepreneurship in its 20-county region. Proposals which create problem-solving initiatives to begin, increase or elevate entrepreneurial processes, outcomes, or collaborations to grow economic opportunities will be considered.
Funding Information
Requests of up to $20,000 will be considered.
Eligibility Criteria
- IRS-designated 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organizations organizations, units/agencies of government or public institutions in SMIF’s 20-county region are eligible to apply.
- Individuals and businesses are not eligible for this grant.
Grant Guidelines
- Only one Economic Development Grant application per organization will be considered
- All grants require a 100% match, at least 25% cash (cash match must be in-hand before grant funds are released)
- All projects must have at least one project partner
Exclusions
Ineligible organizations or activities include:
- Individuals, businesses, or other for-profit organizations
- General operating expenses and expenses not directly related to the project/program
- Capital funding, real estate investments, fixed assets, equipment, campaigns or endowments
- Existing deficits
- Programs or services mandated by law
- Projects/programs already in progress or completed
- Funds for re-granting or to establish loan pools
- Organizations that have an “open” cash grant with SMIF or have not satisfied a grant obligation within the past 12 months.
