The European Journalism Centre (EJC) is accepting pitches for the Global Health Journalism Grant Program for Germany and France. This programme will reward different journalistic projects in 2019 to cover global health topics in developing countries. Freelancers, journalists on staff, and newsrooms are equally eligible to apply.
The aim of the Global Health Journalism Grant Program is to promote innovative reports in German media on global health in developing countries. The purpose of the fellowship is to increase awareness of global health issues in society and to inform and encourage action by actors and decision makers in government and research, civil society, business and medicine, and development cooperation actors.
The Global Health Journalism Grants program aims to promote innovative media coverage in French media on health-related topics in developing countries. The purpose of this fellowship is to raise awareness about international health, the general public, young adults and health-related decision-makers, researchers and leaders, as well as development actors.
Funding Information
- For Germany: Each scholarship is between € 5,000 and € 20,000 – including any travel expenses and expenses, as well as technical expenses, depending on the direction of the project.
- For France: The scholarships, in the amount of € 5,000 to € 20,000 each, include possible travel and material costs, depending on the size of the project.
Criteria
- For Germany
- Freelance or permanent employees, individual journalists, as well as small journalistic teams (including support staff, eg from the fields of graphic design, software programming, data journalism, etc.) can apply for a promotion of a report in the format that they are used for the Best for applicnats topic and the target audience.
- Applicants should have journalistic experience in the reporting of health, science, economics or developing countries and must publish in relevant media in Germany. They expressly welcome the publication in several media.
- There are no restrictions on the nationality or place of residence of applicants as long as the project is produced in German and published in German media (whose audience lives mainly in Germany).
- For France
- Freelancers, in-house journalists, and small teams of journalists (which can include support functions such as graphic designers, computer developers or data experts) can apply for the award in the format they feel best coincide with their subject and their audience (text, video, audio or multimedia).
- Candidates must be experienced and have already covered topics related to health, science, development and will have to publish in a relevant French media. Journalists are strongly encouraged to publish in several media.
- There are no criteria of nationality or residence; provided applicants project is published in a French media whose audience reaches France.
