The Embassy of Canada to Morocco and Mauritania is seeking proposals for its Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). For close to three decades, Canada has funded small grants in developing countries through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). Over the years, the CFLI has provided significant assistance to people in developing countries similar to Morocco and Mauritania.
Funding Priorities
- Championing inclusive and accountable governance, peaceful pluralism and respect for diversity, and human rights;
- Promoting gender equality and empowerment of women and girls;
- Addressing climate change and enhancing environmental sustainability;
- Stimulating sustainable and green economic growth;
- Promoting stability and security;
Funding Information
The amounts of the projects submitted for CFLI funding must be between $10,000 CAD and $20,000 CAD.
Development Assistance
- Canada-Morcco: Canada’s development assistance to Morocco dates from 1963, with annual bilateral disbursements now averaging $8 million, educational reform has been an area of particularly close partnership. This program provides a platform through which Canada can share its experience in decentralising school systems to help Moroccan schools be more responsive to the needs of local communities.
- Canada-Mauritania: Canada helped improve access to food and provided lifesaving nutritional support through a number of activities, including the distribution of emergency food rations, supporting community-based treatment of acute malnutrition, and improving access to safe water for men, women and children facing this very complex humanitarian situation.
Canada is also providing Mauritania with limited support for capacity-building in its security sector through Canada’s Counter-Terrorism Capacity Building Program. Canada and Mauritania also cooperate, in the multilateral context, in NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue and in the Global Forum against Terrorism (GCTF).
