The Moyne Virtual Gallery (MVG) has announced the applications for Emerging Curators Development Program, a paid youth mentorship program to support young people interested in knowing how to curate exhibitions or interested in the fields of arts management.
The aims of the MVG Emerging Curators Development are to develop the capacity of emerging arts and cultural practitioners to undertake activities that enables them to develop a range of skills appropriate to curatorial work for virtual and real life exhibitions.
The program will appoint two young people to develop an online exhibition program for the MVG. The curators will be mentored by professional arts workers to support the development and delivery of the exhibitions.
This opportunity is proudly presented by Moyne Shire Council and is supported by VicHealth Jumpstart Fund.
Funding Information
- Each participant will receive a $6,000 stipend for participation in the program. The stiped covers travel expenses to attend mentor and coordinator meetings, administrative expenses including phone & internet plus the creation and delivery of two online exhibitions in the Moyne Virtual Gallery between November 2022 – August 2023.
- Payment schedule: 50% payment will be made on signing of contract, 25% upon delivery of exhibition one and the remaining 25% paid upon completion of the program.

The successful applicant will receive:
- One-on-one mentorship through a series of face-face, online and email engagement (hours to be determined between mentor and mentee).
- Regular feedback on the curatorial and conceptual development of the exhibition program.
- Support with budgeting and procurement (purchasing) processes and project management.
- Support with industry networks.
- Marketing and promotional support.
- Project support in the form of an exhibition budget approved and managed by the project coordinator (to be used for artist fees, public relations support, and the production of accompanying marketing material).
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be aged between 18 and 25 years on 1 November 2022.
- Applicants must reside within one of the following local government areas: Moyne Shire, Warrnambool City Council, Glenelg Shire, Southern Grampians or Corangamite Shire. If you live less than 2km beyond these local government boundaries, you are also eligible to apply.

Applicants must have capacity to create and deliver two online exhibitions between November 2022 – August 2023. Content of the exhibitions will be defined by each curator and can be guided by mentor advice. Exhibitions must not contain:
- Violent or graphic content
- Animal abuse content
- R rated content
- They are looking for young people who are wanting to explore and extend their skill set as fuel for the future – both creatively and professionally. The aim is to provide you with space for growth, and the seeds for new ideas and ways of working – you will not be expected to already come equipped with specialist knowledge or skills.
