The European Union (EU) is currently accepting proposals from eligible organisations for a program entitled “European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights Country Based Support Scheme-Sudan” with an aim to promote the respect for, protection and fulfilment of human rights in Sudan, and to strengthen the role of civil society organisations in the consolidation of democracy and the rule of law.
Thematic Priorities
- Ensuring and expanding the working space for media and press; Protecting and enhancing the press and media freedoms; and building the capacity of journalists. (Special consideration will be given for projects including female and young journalists);
- Protecting women’s rights and promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment
- Supporting and protecting victims or potential victims of human rights violations (e.g. torture, degrading or inhuman treatment, armed conflict, arbitrary arrest and detention) through the provision of legal, medical, psycho-social and other types of support services, in order to restore the right to remedy and rehabilitation of victims.
Size of Grants
Any grant requested under this Call for Proposals must fall between € 80,000 and € 240,000.
Location
Actions must take place in Sudan.
Duration
The initial planned duration of an action may not be lower than 18 months nor exceed 36 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
- be a legal person
- be non-profit-making
- be a specific type of organisation such as: non-governmental organisation, civil society organisation , including non-governmental non-profit making organisations, community based organisations, institutions and organisations, networks thereof at local, national, regional and international level, international (inter-governmental) organisation of the Rules of application of the EU Financial Regulation and academic institutions
- be established in a Member State of the European Union or Sudan.
- be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary
- Potential applicants may not participate in calls for proposals or be awarded grants if they are in any of the situations
- The lead applicant must declare that the lead applicant himself, the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies) are not in any of these situations.
- The lead applicant may act individually or with co-applicant(s).
- If awarded the grant contract, the lead applicant will become the beneficiary identified as the Coordinator. The Coordinator is the main interlocutor of the Contracting Authority. It represents and acts on behalf of any other co-beneficiary (if any) and coordinate the design and implementation of the action.
How to Apply
- The application procedure consists of two phases:
- Concept notes
- Full applications
- In the first instance, only concept notes must be submitted for evaluation. Thereafter, lead applicants who have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a full application.
