Flint Family Fund in the UK

The Leeds Community Foundation is seeking applications for Flint Family Fund to support disadvantaged children and young people in Leeds.

• Supporting a good education for all and helping to remove any barriers to learning;
• Creating opportunities to engage children and young people in sport to improve physical and mental health & wellbeing;
• To encourage lifelong passions, interests and personal development; and
• Raising aspirations and confidence and giving support to future careers and dreams.

• The minimum request is £2,500 for 1 year projects.
• The maximum is £10,000 for 2 year projects.  The grant can be used to part-fund or fully-fund a wide range of activities.
• Applications can be made to support an organisations core running costs or undertake a specific project or event (i.e. if the event is an integral part of the project work) over the course of the project. Examples of this include volunteer expenses, staff costs, venue costs, transport and additional costs for project beneficiaries (transport costs or food provisions).

• Sport based activities to improve physical and mental health & wellbeing, increase confidence, develop new skills and raise the aspirations of children and young people.
• Improving the literacy skills of children and young people and address the barriers to learning to increase their educational attainment and open up education and career options that may not have previously been available.

• Sport project examples: physical literacy*; sport leadership programmes; alternative sport programmes; employment focused activities; social action/community-led; physical and mental health & wellbeing
• Literacy skills project examples: educational attainment; a focus on Higher Education; confidence building; longer-term support with literacy, homework clubs; reading programmes; social action/community-led

• Incorporated community groups such as CIOs, CICs and charitable companies from the third sector that:
  • Are registered with the Charity Commission, Companies House or Mutuals Public Register (FCA)
  • Have a constitution or other relevant governance document
  • Have a management committee/board of directors/trustees of at least three unrelated people, none of whom have significant control
  • A copy of your most recent annual accounts or financial records showing your organisation’s balance of funds, income and reserves
  • Have a bank account under the name of the group with at least two unrelated signatories (if your organisation doesn’t have its own bank account, but does meet all of the other criteria, please contact them to discuss how they can work around this)
  • Are based in or supporting people living in the Leeds Metropolitan District Area
  • Have an income of £500,000 or under in the most recent financial year
  • Have a Child and young Safeguarding Policy and an Equal Opportunities Policy or similar
  • If organising or running public events, festivals etc groups will be expected to have relevant insurance and comply with all required health and safety, food handling/preparation and other local and national statutory regulations for such activity.
• Charities that are registered with the Charity Commission but are not an incorporated structure can also apply.  However, grants cannot be used to pay staff that are directly employed by the charity.
• Small unincorporated and unregistered community groups can apply for a maximum of £5,000. Unincorporated, unregistered groups can only apply if their annual income is less than £10,000, and if securing the grant does not take them above this threshold for the year.
