The Forge AHEAD Center is proud to announce the launch of its Community Micro-Grant Program, an initiative designed to support organizations in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi that are working to improve health outcomes related to diabetes, obesity, and hypertension.
This initiative is supported by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD). They aim to foster health for all through innovative, community-led projects that are sustainable and collaborative.
Objectives
- The program seeks to:
- Increase Community Capacity: Provide targeted funding to implement sustainable solutions for community health.
- Foster Community Collaboration: Encourage partnerships among organizations, community members, and other stakeholders.
- Build a Healthier Future: Support initiatives that focus on health promotion and community empowerment.
Funding Information
- Grant Amount: Up to $10,000.
- Project Duration: One year (projects must be completed within 12 months of funding).

- Outreach
- Transportation
- Project-specific training
- Other directly related costs
Ineligible Expenses
- Permanent equipment (except with a long-term use plan)
- Lobbying,
- Political advocacy
- Alcohol
- General operating expenses (exceptions for organizations with under $100K in revenue)

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a nonprofit organization with 501c3 status located in Alabama, Louisiana, or Mississippi.
- Propose a 12-month project that addresses health disparities in their community.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage grant funds and implement the project effectively.
Evaluation Criteria
- Proposals will be evaluated based on:
- Alignment: How well the project addresses community health needs.
- Feasibility: Realistic goals, timeline, and budget.
- Innovation: Creativity and originality in addressing community needs.
- Collaboration: Strength of partnerships and stakeholder involvement.
- Sustainability: Long-term impact and scalability of the initiative.
