The Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL, or the Department), is pleased to announce the Grants to Promote Safe and Healthy Workplaces in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
The project objective is sustained improvement of occupational safety and health (OSH) conditions for workers in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador: with a particular focus on injuries, Chronic Kidney Disease of non-traditional causes (CKDnt) and COVID-19 in the agricultural sectors in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador; and injuries and COVID-19 in the apparel/textile (maquila) sector in El Salvador.
The project should achieve or contribute significantly to the following outcomes:
- Increased adoption of practices associated with the prevention, mitigation, and remediation of workplace illness and injuries by employers, workers, and government institutions in Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
- Increased utilization of existing social protection systems by workers and families impacted by workplace illnesses and injuries.
- Increased preparedness of employers, unions, and government institutions for future pandemics and emerging illnesses and injuries.
Funding Information
- Approximately $8 million total costs is expected to be available to fund approximately one award. Applicants may apply for a ceiling amount of up to $8 million total costs.
- The period of performance is a maximum of 4.5 years (54 months) from the effective date of the award. This performance period includes all necessary implementation and start-up activities.
Eligibility Criteria
The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- U.S. organizations:
- Nonprofits, including any faith-based organizations or community-based organizations
- Public/State Controlled Institutions of Higher Education
- Private Institutions of Higher Education
- For-Profit Organizations
- Non-U.S. organizations:
- Non-U.S. Entities, including Public International Organizations (PIOs).
