The London Community Foundation is accepting applications for the Greenwich Peninsula Community Fund.
Knight Dragon are the lead developer regenerating Greenwich Peninsula. With over 17,000 new homes, 12,000 new jobs and 48 acres of open public space emerging over the coming years, there is an urban community with design and creativity embedded in its fabric. This Fund has been established to support the growing community of Greenwich Peninsula as the area develops.
This £1.9 million fund will support the delivery of community projects that will have a positive social, economic, and environmental impact on the local community. The first year of this fund will have a total of £100,000 available to award. This Fund will be administered through a grants panel with representation from Knight Dragon, the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Greater London Authority and the Registered Social Landlords.
Themes
- The fund has 7 main themes, listed, with key focuses on health & wellbeing, employment and the environment:
- Improved access to employment and training opportunities across the Peninsula
- Active participation in the society (civic engagement) and improvement in life skills
- Delivering inclusive health and wellbeing programmes
- Positive impact on the local environment, air pollution is reduced, safeguarding the natural environment, resource efficiency and circular economy solutions
- Projects that create more resilient communities by demonstrating that crime is reduced, vulnerable people are helped to live independently.
- More opportunities for disadvantaged people and those most vulnerable in the community including full time employment opportunities for armed forces veterans, homeless employees, mothers returning to work, survivors of modern slavery employees, young care leavers, rehabilitating offenders, young people who are Not in Employment, Education, or Training (NEETs).
- Innovative projects that have a positive social, economic and environmental impact on the community.
Examples of projects that might be funded by the Fund include:
- Projects that support skills development for children and young people, i.e. mentoring, employment advice, access to training opportunities.
- Activities that promote health and well being for those who are most isolated within the community. For example, befriending services or exercise classes for young professionals and older people.
- Environmental conservation projects that allow volunteering opportunities.
Funding Information
- Grants will be between £5,000 to £20,000.
Fund Criteria
- The Fund will provide grants to community projects, voluntary sector organisations or community groups based or operating in the Greenwich Peninsula. Projects will be required to demonstrate social value through:
- Improved access to employment and training opportunities across the Peninsula
- Active participation in the society (civic engagement) and improvement in life skills
- Delivering inclusive health and wellbeing programmes
- Positive impact on the local environment, air pollution is reduced, safeguarding the natural environment, resource efficiency and circular economy solutions
- Projects that create more resilient communities by demonstrating that crime is reduced, vulnerable people are helped to live independently.
- More opportunities for disadvantaged people and those most vulnerable in the community including full time employment opportunities for armed forces veterans, homeless employees, mothers returning to work, survivors of modern slavery employees, young care leavers, rehabilitating offenders, young people who are Not in Employment, Education, or Training (NEETs).
- Innovative projects that have a positive social,economic and environmental impact on the community.
Location: The Fund will support community projects directly delivered within the Greenwich Peninsula ward boundary. Please note that a charity or organisation does not need to be registered within the Greenwich Peninsula ward to apply for this fund, however the funding spent needs to directly benefits the residents and community of Greenwich Peninsula with 80% of a project’s delivery occurring within the Peninsula.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following not-for-profit organisations are eligible to apply:
- Organisations with an annual income of up to £1m
- Constituted community and resident groups
- Registered charities
- Companies limited by guarantee
- Social enterprises
- Community Interest Companies (CICs) Limited by Guarantee – not CICs Limited by Shares
- Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs)
- These are LCF’s core eligibility criteria:
- Eligible Legal Structures – there must be a signed governing document in place appropriate to the legal structure which includes an asset lock (or equivalent clause), and the purpose of all funded activities must be charitable (not for profit):
- Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)
- Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) – may also be registered as a Charity or a Community Interest Company Limited by Guarantee (CICLG)
- Trust
- Unincorporated Association
- Community Benefit Societies (CBS). Ideally, the CBS will also be registered as charitable with HMRC, however this is not essential.
- Governance: You must have at least three unrelated members legally responsible for the governance of the organisation; Trustees/Directors/Management Committee as appropriate to your structure. Please note that this refers to the highest level of governance, a Management Committee that sits a board of Trustees (e.g. charities, CIOs) or Directors (CLG or CICLG) does not count towards this.
- Bank account: A bank account in the same name as the organisation applying with a minimum of two unrelated signatories must be in place by the start of the grant.
- Safeguarding: You must have a safeguarding policy in place that has been reviewed in the last two years.
- Previous LCF funding:All conditions from any previous London Community Foundation grants must be completed and there is no current outstanding monitoring at the time of application.
- Registration:If the income for charitable purposes is more than £5k at the point of application, organisations must have submitted an application to register to Charity Commission or the relevant regulator (e.g., Companies House, CIC regulator or Financial Conduct Authority).
