The Heart Research UK Healthy Heart Grants is now open for applications which are awarded for new projects which specifically and actively promote healthy hearts or the prevention or reduction of the risk of heart disease.
The Healthy Heart Grants are available for new projects, they do not fund ongoing community projects unless they are being delivered to a new group.
Funding Information
- The award five Healthy Heart Grants up to the value of £15,000 each throughout the year.
- Projects must run for a minimum of three months and no longer than 12 months.
What type of Projects do you fund?
The Healthy Heart Grant is available for projects that work with adults and that actively promote heart health or reduce the risk of heart disease through primary or secondary prevention. They do not currently fund projects for children. Your project must have a primary focus on one or more of the following four risk factors for heart dsease:
- Nutrition and Healthy Eating
- Physical Activity
- Smoking
- Alcohol
They welcome innovative ideas, and a project may include other aspects of health and wellbeing, but the primary focus must be one or more of the four above key areas.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications for a Healthy Heart Grant will only be considered if:
- The organisation applying for the Healthy Heart Grant (‘Grant Applicant’) is a charity located in the UK and the Project is based entirely in the UK;
- Both the individual completing the Grant Application Form and/or individual(s) responsible for running the Project act entirely on behalf of and with the authority of the Grant Applicant;
- The Grant Applicant is a small, registered charity with an annual income of less than £1 million;
- The Grant is being applied for in respect of a Project running for a minimum of three months and no longer than 12 months and is a new project or cohort and not a continuing or existing activity
- The Project has a primary focus on one or more of the four areas: nutrition and healthy eating, physical activity, smoking and alcohol;
- (The Grant Applicant agrees for Heart Research UK to conduct blood pressure measurements for all or a sample of beneficiaries at the start of the Project and after the Project completes. The Charity may not conduct this for all projects. Heart Research UK will contact the Grant Applicant to discuss this and the Charity will fund this initiative.
Selection Process
- What is Heart Research UK’s shortlisting and awarding criteria? When shortlisting and selecting which application to fund, the Heart Research UK Healthy Heart Grants Panel will look first and foremost at how strong the healthy heart message is and how actively it is being promoted through your proposed activities. The panel also consider:
- Whether your target audience is a vulnerable group, at risk of heart diseases
- How feasible is the proposed project and how likely is it to succeed evidence of appropriate skills & experience to deliver the project
- Value for money, with regard to impact and number of beneficiaries
- Methods of monitoring and evaluating the impact of your project on heart health.
