HIF’s Emergency Household Water Filter Challenge: Seeking EOI’s to Support Innovative Ideas around the World

DIMFE Call for Projects (€100,000 to €500,000)

Deadline: 17 February 2017

The Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) is currently seeking applications for its “Emergency Household Water Filter Challenge” to develop a better understanding about how existing household water filters perform in humanitarian emergencies, and to encourage the development of new filters specifically designed for the emergency context.

Providing clean water in humanitarian emergencies is essential, however few household water filters have been developed with this context in mind. In an emergency setting usability, durability, transportability, and cost arise as crucial aspects of filter design that sit alongside the vital pathogen filtering capacity of the technologies. Focusing on these features of filters, in addition to their filtering capabilities, is essential to improve water treatment in humanitarian emergencies.
