InfoNile inviting Applicants for Reporting Grant Program

Climate Change and Health Adaptation Program for First Nations South of 60°N - Canada

Deadline: 30 June 2019

InfoNile is inviting applicants for its Reporting Grant Program for young journalists aged 35 and below in the Nile Basin countries to submit proposals for in-depth investigative multimedia journalism stories on climate change impacts and youth-initiated solutions in rural communities of Nile Basin.

These stories are part of a series of stories focusing on climate change and youth-driven initiatives in mitigating the effects of climate change funded by CIVICUS and will also feed into a final data journalism project including interactive maps and stories.

Story pitches should focus on the local impacts of climate change and/or innovative adaptation solutions initiated by young people in the journalist’s country.

While much has been said about the global science of climate change, they want the applicant to connect the science, theory and country-level data to the reality of how people in applicants country are being affected on a daily basis.

How is climate change affecting various areas in rural parts of applicants country – including energy, environment, agriculture, food security, water, land, disasters, health, livelihoods, socioeconomic development, even education and culture? (Please be specific and focus on one or two areas in their pitch.

Applicants story pitch should also contain a plan to integrate data analysis and visualization of climate change impacts on different sectors or topics relevant to applicants story; i.e. energy, agriculture, food security, water, land, disasters, health, livelihoods, etc. “Geo-coded” or geographical data is the most preferred, since they will use it to create interactive maps and visualizations. However, please feel free to integrate any other sources of credible data.
