The United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan is launching an initiative to strengthen institutional capacity and interagency cooperation in implementing the PVE strategy to prevent and combat violent extremism.
Objective
- To support youth initiatives through non-governmental/non-profit public organizations to involve young people aged 18 to 35 in making socially important decisions at the local level in order to eliminate such pressure factors as the feeling of inability to be heard, to influence the decision-making process, a sense of powerlessness, lack of advantages in the existing social infrastructure, lack of conditions for decent employment or opportunities to start their own business.
Thematic Areas
- Applications submitted to the competition and applying for a grant must be aimed at supporting youth initiatives of the project’s target audiences in the city of Zhanaozen and Beineu district, Mangistau region.
- To create a more inclusive and peaceful society with the participation of at least 1000 members of the local community, at least 3 awareness-raising initiatives with the participation of central and local authorities have been organized in selected localities.
- Examples of possible areas of activity are given below; however, they are not limited to them:
- innovative educational centers;
- sports grounds;
- cultural and leisure centers;
- coworking centers;
- volunteer centers;
- creating conditions for increasing the potential, improving the professional and personal skills of vulnerable youth, promoting decent employment and employment;
- creative industries centers;
- restoration of social infrastructure, etc.
- Conducting trainings to increase the potential and improve the professional and personal skills of vulnerable youth.
Funding Information
- It is assumed that funding will be provided for one application with a project budget of no more than 3,000,000 (three million) tenge.
Duration
- Project implementation period (including reporting): April – June 2025
Requirements
- Basic requirements for grant applications:
- In addition to compliance with the main thematic areas of the grant competition, all submitted grant applications must:
- be interconnected with national and local programs and regional development priorities;
- be aimed at engaging local vulnerable youth in target communities;
- be sustainable in terms of the duration of the project and strengthening the local community;
- establish a mechanism to ensure the institutional and financial sustainability of the project after the end of its financing;
- focus on social and gender equality;
- contain a component on capacity building, training and broad information on project approaches and technologies;
- be aimed at solving the most pressing social issues in the region;
- may involve partners for joint implementation and possible co-financing of the project;
- contain information on the definition of clear indicators for measuring the results achieved.

Competition Conditions
- Since the project is aimed at strengthening local communities of target settlements (Mangistau region – Zhanaozen city and Beineu district), only non-governmental/non-profit public organizations registered in Mangistau region, registered in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, can participate in the competition;
- Applications from organizations not registered in the Republic of Kazakhstan; political groups engaged in active political activities; commercial organizations will not be considered;
- The declared project idea and project activities must correspond to the statutory goals and statutory activities of the organization;
- Grants are issued subject to co-financing and/or non-monetary contribution from the organization;
- Each NGO can submit either a separate project for a specific locality or a project covering all target localities in one of the regions.
