Leeds Community Foundation is seeking applications for the Leeds Together for Ukraine Fund to support the arrival and hosting of Ukrainian and other refugees in the city of Leeds.
The programme is aimed at any existing Community Organisations or group that can show:
- They have the right knowledge, experience and skills to deliver programmes or activities to support and integrate new refugees.
- A clearly planned and evidence-based approach to justify their support activity and interventions.
Funding Information
The minimum request is £5,000 and the maximum is £10,000. This funding is for a new and/or existing activity for up to 1 year. The grant can be used to part-fund or fully-fund a wide range of activities.
Only one application per organisation can be considered.
What can the Fund support?
Support for newly arrived refugees with:

Integration and belonging such as:
- Aiding people who are new to Leeds with orientation, integration, belonging and local connections. This could include how to navigate the city; improving knowledge and access to local services/activities, places to visit and things to do in Leeds.
- Connecting with new and/or settled communities living in Leeds to improve social connections and cultural understanding of diverse communities. (‘New Communities’ refer to people in the UK less than 10 years, ‘Settled Communities’ refer to people in the UK more than 10 years).

Aiding the development of English language skills:
- Such as conversation classes and/or activities which provide people with opportunities to learn English, practice English and build confidence.
- The type of activity considered is wide ranging providing English language skills remains a focus of the activity.
- This approach could integrate English language skills with another area e.g. health and wellbeing; employability and skills etc.
- They welcome your ideas for activities which can support English language learning.

- Enabling access and confidence toward employment, education and skills development support.

- They welcome your ideas for activities which can support health and wellbeing.

Older people
- They welcome your ideas for activities which can support older people in line.
Eligibility Criteria

Incorporated community groups such as CIOs, CICs and charitable companies from the third sector that:
- Are registered with the Charity Commission, Companies House or Mutuals Public Register (FCA)
- CICs, limited companies and similar must be clearly constituted for public benefit and should be limited by guarantee, not shares
- Have a constitution or other relevant governance document
- Have a management committee/board of directors/trustees of at least three unrelated people, none of whom have significant control
- A copy of your most recent annual accounts or financial records showing your organisation’s balance of funds, income and reserves.
- Have a bank account under the name of the group with at least two unrelated signatories
- Are based in or supporting people living in the Leeds Metropolitan District Area
- Have an income of £300k or under in the most recent financial year.
- If working with children and young people or adults deemed at risk, they would expect to see a relevant Safeguarding Policy
- If organising or running public facing activity, events, festivals etc groups will be expected to have relevant insurance and comply with all required health and safety, food handling/preparation and other local and national statutory regulations for such activity.
- Charities that are registered with the Charity Commission but are not an incorporated structure can also apply. They must also fulfil the above bullet points. However, grants cannot be used to pay staff that are directly employed by the charity.
