Freedom House, together with the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation, is accepting applications for financial support from local registered non-governmental organizations and coalitions based in the Republic of Moldova, in the Eastern Partnership region and the European Union, seeking to raise awareness of freedom of the press, freedom of expression and independent media information in the Republic of Moldova, including among citizens, poorly protected strata of the population, authorities, local self-government bodies and other members of society.
Objectives
- Provide financial support for long-term awareness-raising initiatives, public campaigns and other activities aimed at raising public awareness of freedom of expression and freedom of the press in the Republic of Moldova;
- Provide new initiatives or campaigns with the necessary technical assistance, support and resources so that in the era of disinformation, with their help, strengthen public confidence in independent Moldovan media and fact-based journalism;
- To support regional initiatives promoting the active interaction of Moldovan citizens with the media and requiring accountability from the authorities to ensure equal and unbiased access to media distribution services in Moldova.
Thematic Areas
Freedom House and Black Sea Trust will select up to three (3) initiatives for financial support for up to $ 10,000 each. Applications will be considered in the following thematic areas:
- Increased awareness of freedom of expression / freedom of the press among the general public in the Republic of Moldova;
- Strengthening public confidence in independent Moldovan media in the era of disinformation;
- Exchange of opinions and journalism based on facts;
- Encouraging active interaction of citizens with the media in Moldova;
- Work with the state authorities on guaranteeing freedom of the press in the Republic of Moldova.
Funding Information
The budget of projects should not exceed 10 000 US dollars.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only non-profit organizations, associations, initiatives and funds operating on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, the European Union or the Eastern Partnership are eligible to participate in this program.
- Private individuals, as well as state, quasi-public and commercial institutions are not eligible for financing.
