Freedom House, in collaboration with the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation has announced a call for funding and support from non-governmental organizations and co-operatives registered at the local level in the Eastern Partnership and the European Union, which aim to take action to raise awareness of freedom of the press, freedom of expression and independent media in the Republic of Moldova, including among the public, marginalized communities, government, local authorities and other sectors.
Objectives
The “Media Freedom Matters” grant program will focus on the following objectives:
- Provide financial support for advocacy initiatives, public campaigns and other long-term activities aimed at raising public awareness of freedom of expression and freedom of the press among the general public in the Republic of Moldova;
- Provide the essential technical support, assistance and tools needed for new initiatives or campaigns to boost their impact on strengthening public confidence in independent media in Moldova and act based journalism in the era of disinformation;
- Supporting extensive regional efforts to encourage the active engagement of Moldovan citizens with the media and the promotion of a responsible government that will ensure equal and impartial access to media distribution services in Moldova.
Thematic Areas
Freedom House and the Black Sea Trust will select up to three (3) advocacy initiatives to fund up to $ 10,000 each. Considerations in the following thematic areas will be considered:
- Increasing awareness of freedom of expression / free press among the general public in the Republic of Moldova;
- Strengthening public confidence in independent media in Moldova in the era of disinformation;
- Promoting journalism based on facts and exchanges of views;
- Encourage citizens’ active engagement with the media in Moldova;
- Targeting the government to achieve its commitment to a free press in the Republic of Moldova.
Funding Information
The cost of the project can be up to $ 10,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only non-commercial organizations, associations, initiatives and foundations active in the Republic of Moldova, the European Union or the Eastern Partnership are eligible to participate in this program.
- Individuals and government, quasi-governmental or commercial agencies and bodies are not eligible for funding.
