Applications are invited for the latest media grant by Africa No Filter that are aimed exclusively at women storytellers and women-owned media organisations and outlets. This grant call-out wants to contribute to an increase in African female storytellers and content creators and to give space to voices that are historically misrepresented and underrepresented across the continent.
Africa No Filter (ANF) is a donor collaborative that supports the development of nuanced and contemporary stories that shift stereotypical and harmful narratives within and about Africa.
The latest media grant by Africa No Filter will only fund women storytellers.
All applicants should have a track record of creating work that challenges stereotypical narratives of Africa through innovative, creative and compelling storytelling. They should also be involved in at least one of the following:
- Disrupting and challenging harmful and stereotypical narratives and shape new narratives about and within the continent
- Training and building the capacity of female journalists or content creators
- Amplifying creativity and innovation within the continent
- Using data driven insights and analysis to shed light on transformations taking place within the continent
- Leveraging pop culture as an opportunity for powerful storytelling
Funding Information
- Journalists, bloggers, vloggers, content creators, and podcasters can apply for Project Support grants worth up to $10,000 while organizations can apply for Operational Support and Capacity-Building grants of up to $25,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- They welcome applications from all over Africa and are particularly interested in pan-African organisations or projects that are delivered across more than one country on the continent.
- For Organizations
- Based in Africa and female led
- Be in operation for more than a year
- Have a history of working with African female storytellers and content creators
- Proposed project must be focused on increasing narratives and stories that reflect a more diverse and dynamic continent.
- For Individuals:
- Must be an African Woman living on the continent or the Diaspora
- Must have a history of creating content and stories that reflect a more diverse and dynamic continent for more than a year
- Proposed project must be focused on increasing narratives and stories that reflect a more diverse and dynamic continent.
Grant Criteria
- ANF grants support emerging and established artists, scholars, authors, poets, bloggers, vloggers, photographers, curators, publishers, musicians, journalists, and arts, culture and media organizations that are already challenging stereotypes about Africa. They offer grants directly and indirectly through intermediaries as part of their work of strengthening the narrative change ecosystem by developing robust research and nuanced storytelling about Africa.
