Nominations are open for the 2019 Award which will recognize the positive contributions of Internet-based innovations to development focusing on powering Internet infrastructure.
The 2019 Internet for Development Award will be awarded to one organization that support research and development of software and/or hardware solutions that can improve the stability and reliability of how Internet infrastructure is powered.
Focused Area
Interested applicants can submit nominations that are focused on one or more of the following areas:
- Technical innovation in provision of efficient, reliable power for Internet infrastructures, particularly in challenging situations such as off-grid, intermittently supplied, or disaster afflicted environments;
- Creative organizational/partnership arrangement(s) and incentives for development of alternative and renewable energy sources for use in powering Internet infrastructure;
- Creative technical and business solutions involving provision of power in tandem with Internet access, to expand connectivity to underserved areas;
- Enabling regulatory frameworks that support innovative technical and business models for power access provision.
Award Information
The winner will receive a USD 3,500 cash prize plus a travel grant to attend the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2019 in Berlin where the awards ceremony will take place.
Eligibility Criteria
Awards nominations will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Award nominations submitted by individuals on behalf of public or private sector organizations, university, or research and development institutions, non-government organizations and social enterprises will be considered. Individuals are not eligible for awards.
- ISIF Asia will ONLY support initiatives managed by organizations based in the Asia Pacific region, as described in the list of economies served by APNIC. The awarded funds will have to be invested within the Asia Pacific region.
- Award nominations must provide evidence of a demonstrated impact in their community.
- Award nominations must provide clear and concrete information about their organization, the team involved and their capabilities.
- Award nominations must be aligned to the funding categories within ISIF Asia scope. Clearly state the objectives of the project applicants are nominating, and how they are in concordance with the ISIF Asia objectives.
Nomination Requirements
Nominated projects/organizations must:
- Operating for a minimum of 1 year, with a clear development focus.
- Provide outcomes-based evidence to support impact achieved.
- Have clear community benefit.
- Address gender diversity and inclusion.
- Provide details about what is innovative about their approach.
- Provide enough technical information to assess the technical solution implemented.
