The Northern and Regional Economic Development (NRED) Program funds initiatives led by Alberta municipalities, Indigenous communities and non-profit organizations that promote regional economic development and diversification.
Priorities
- The new program priorities are as follows:
- Increase investment readiness and regional attractiveness for private investment.
- Support planning and feasibility studies that lead to economic development enabling investments that boost regional growth.
- Support local and regional business and industry, including business retention and expansion.
Funding Information
- The minimum grant amount has shifted from $20,000 to $10,000, and the maximum grant amount has shifted from $200,000 to $300,000.
Duration
- The maximum project length has increased from two years to three years.
Project Types
- Applicants must indicate which project type their application falls under:
- Planning/Feasibility Studies
- Training or Events
- Marketing and Investment/Regional Promotion
- Business Expansion and Support Projects
- Other Projects
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Applicants
- Entities eligible to apply to the NRED Program include the following:
- Incorporated Non-Profits with an economic development mandate, that have been operating for a minimum of one year and are in good standing with any provincial or federal filing requirements,
- Municipalities,
- Indigenous Communities (First Nations or Métis Settlements).
- Applications from project-based collaborations are permitted provided the application is submitted by an eligible entity. This entity will be considered the “lead” and, if successful, will enter an agreement with JET on behalf of their organization and their collaborator(s).
