Africa REACH is seeking applications from legally registered African-based civil society organizations (CSO) and/or community-based organizations (CBO) to facilitate community-led activities that support national HIV projects focused on children and young people.
The grants are intended to invest in discreet activities designed to remove barriers to programmatic and policy advancement, (with possible examples such as trainings, advocacy campaigns, communication materials, policy briefs, etc.)
Funding Information
- Grants will be awarded according to the scope and grant ceiling, for a period of up to 6 months. Grants will be awarded in funding levels up to $20,000 USD (twenty thousand US dollars) per grantee. Proposals may be for any amount up to this ceiling. Grants are open to all African countries.
Eligible Activities
- Africa REACH aims to provideone-time financial support for activities that advance the following:
- Prevention of HIV infection among women of childbearing age and their partners;
- Reproductive health support including access to counselling, contraception and prevention of unintended pregnancies among women living with HIV.
- Effective ways to reach infants, children and adolescents who are living with HIV but not yet diagnosed or linked to and retained in HIV care.
- Effective ways to engage adolescents and young women in sexual and reproductive services to reduce unintended pregnancies.
- Effective ways to engage adolescents and young women in HIV prevention services to reduce new HIV infections during pregnancy and lactation.
- Access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) to prevent new vertical infections in infants; and
- Treatment, care and support services for women, mothers, infants, and families who are living with or directly impacted by HIV.
- Grants will be awarded in a manner that maximizes geographic and regional representation across the continent.
Eligibility Criteria
- This is a closed call for proposals. Only organizations that meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:
- Applications must be from African-based civil society and/ or grass roots community organizations working on or having an interest in increasing their work scope to work on HIV, with a preference for paediatric HIV. Applications from consortiums may also be considered.
- Organizations must have demonstrated experience and success advocating/implementing at the national level.
- Strong preference will be given to organizations working in African countries that:
- Have high vertical HIV transmission rates compared to other countries in Africa;
- Have large numbers of children and adolescents living with HIV who are not aware of HIV diagnosis and/or not accessing ART compared to other countries in Africa;
- Have high rates of HIV incidence in adolescents and young people;
- Have existing national efforts to eliminate vertical transmission of HIV, although not yet on the WHO certification track; and/or
- Availability of data on indicators for vertical transmission rates and paediatric/adolescent HIV treatment and viral suppression.
General Guidelines
- Applicantsare expected to develop a proposal that includes awork plan with goals and tactics to address definedbarriers at the community and/or national level that will assist inachieving the end of AIDS in children and young people by 2025.
