Deadline: 21-Jul-21
Applications are invited for Pears Youth Fund to support third sector youth organisations to deliver high-quality youth work and promote youth voice at a time when they most need unrestricted funding to do what they do best.
The Pears Youth Fund is open to third sector youth organisations operating in the Leeds or Bradford Metropolitan District areas. It has been made possible thanks to generous support from Pears Foundation, a family foundation based in London. They have a specific interest in young people and in understanding the causes and effects of issues affecting communities.
Grants will be made for work that is focused on children and young people and applicants can apply for either
- Single grant awards for one year to cover core costs;
- Partnership grant awards for two years to cover core costs and activity costs of partnerships promoting youth voice.
Funding Information
- Single Applicants can apply for a grant for one year of up to £10,000.
What can the Fund support?
The funding available through this programme is unrestricted and can be used to contribute to organisational overheads as well as activity delivery costs. What they are interested in is making sure that all funds are used to make a difference for children and young people in the short or longer-term.
- For Single Applicants
- They want to be able to help groups to recover and continue their work coming out of the pandemic. Funds might be used for ongoing virtual delivery, or to get face to face activity going again. For example, helping young people who have been self-isolating, suffering from mental health issues, or young people who find themselves unemployed. Funds can be used to sustain the trusted safe spaces in which children and young people can meet and have fun.
- They want to support youth groups adversely impacted by the pandemic to help rebuild some of the best practice they had in place pre-pandemic, which will allow them to build their resilience and grow: such as diversifying their income sources, looking at their impact or the creative use of volunteers. They are happy to contribute to running costs and allow groups to spend some of the funds on developing business models which will ensure their longer-term sustainability.
- Types of activities that can be funded
- The Funding can be used flexibly by the applicant and can be allocated towards ongoing delivery and running costs or to cover their overheads. Although this funding is unrestricted, they would like to know how you intend to use it, this might include:
- Full Cost Recovery if you are using it to run projects, including a contribution to management costs and overheads
- Staff costs, which should wherever possible include paying staff at least the real Living Wage
- Costs which enable your work to be fully inclusive and accessible (for example: transport, food, childcare).
Eligibility Criteria
- Community groups, charities, social enterprises or other charitable organisations from the third sector that:
- Are youth-focussed organisations where young people are core to the work of the organisation: that means they exist primarily for the promotion and delivery of youth work practice, youth empowerment, youth engagement or giving young people a voice in society
- Have a constitution or other relevant governance document
- Have a management committee/board of directors/trustees of at least three unrelated people, none of whom have significant control
- Unincorporated groups can only apply if their annual income is less than £10,000, and if securing the grant does not take them above this threshold for the year
- Have a bank account under the name of the group with at least two unrelated signatories (if your organisation doesn’t have its own bank account, but does meet all of the other criteria, please contact us to discuss how they can work around this)
- Are based in or supporting young people living in the Bradford or Leeds Metropolitan District Area
- They will prioritise applications from groups with an income below £500,000 in the most recent financial year.
