UN Women India invites proposals from civil society organizations for implementation of a Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS in Maharashtra on women’s access to education and livelihood opportunities.
UN Women seeks the services of a civil society organization working with women and girls from HIV and AIDS affected, infected and vulnerable families and their community-based organizations to strengthen their opportunities for receiving formal education, employability skills and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Funding Information
The budget range for this proposal should be INR 1, 20, 00,000/- to INR 1, 44, 00,000/- [Indian Rupees One Crore Twenty Lakhs to One Crore Forty-Four Lakhs only].
Eligible Activities
- UN Women seeks services from civil society organizations for fulfillment of the jointly planned activities (2022-2023) with UN AIDS mentioned below:
- Link 200 women from vulnerable families in formal education (enrollment class 10 and/or 12) across Thane and Mumbai via open schooling system – State and/or National
- Provide scholastic support (tuition, TMA submission and Examination) to 200 women enrolled for formal education across Thane and Mumbai, to ensure that they pass the exams
- Carry out Awareness Campaigns on HIV Prevention and Response , in the identified geographies across Thane and Mumbai with communities, community leaders, women and young women to identify harmful norms, challenges and stigma in collaboration with UN Women, UN AIDS and UNICEF wherever required
- Establish networks to engage with women’s organizations /youth groups/LGBTQI community/Local Service Providers across thane and Mumbai for HIV Awareness, prevention and response
- Advocate and support relevant government stakeholders (Ministry of Education, MSDE and NIOS) to coordinate and collaborate to address education, employment, entrepreneurship barriers faced by women and young women coming from HIV affected families
- Provide employability skills and placement to 100 women and young women for gainful employment across Thane and Mumbai
- The Proponent Organization may work with the existing UN Women SCE implementing partner in Maharashtra and will leverage the mobilized base of women and girls and partnerships that have already been established. The organization should have experience in working with women and girls from HIV and AIDS affected and infected and vulnerable families on education and skilling .
Duration: All work must be completed between 1st August 2022 to 31 October 2023.
Eligibility Criteria

- Five years of work experience with women and girls from HIV and AIDS affected, infected and vulnerable families, on the issue of women’s empowerment and Livelihood;
- Demonstrable experience of designing, conducting and monitoring of trainings/ capacity building workshops on vocational training/ women’s livelihood initiatives;
- Understanding of the local context and functional competency in the local languages in Maharashtra; knowledge of the structure and functioning of vocational training system is desirable;
- Demonstrable experience in advocacy initiatives with Government and other key stakeholders;
- Ability to deliver efficiently large-scale and mobilization training programs in a defined timeline;
- Documenting, analyzing the change in learning outcomes through Monitoring & Evaluation tools
- Qualification of Team Leader:
- Post-graduate degree in social sciences or international development.
- Minimum fifteen years working experience in international development and good understanding and experience of UN;
- Experience in implementing skilling and livelihood programs for women and girls;
- Sound knowledge on human rights based approaches to programming on HIV issues;
- Excellent analytical skills and communication skills;
- Demonstrated excellent report writing skills in English;
- Qualifications of Team Members:
- Post-graduate degree in social sciences, international development or relevant field.
- At least ten years (for mid-level consultants) and five years (for junior consultants) experience in development, with specialization in gender, social development and women’s rights.
- Significant knowledge and experience on working with girls and women from HIV affected, infected and vulnerable families on social and economic empowerment;
- Recent experience with gender equality issues and knowledge of mainstreaming gender equality into policies/programming/development;
- Experience in India specially Maharashtra;
- Excellent analytical skills and communication skills;
- Demonstrate writing skills in English with strong Hindi proficiency.
