The UN Women in partnership with the European Southern Observatory (ESO), seeks to promote the participation and development of career paths in STEM for young women and girls from vulnerable and rural communities in the Antofagasta Region, as well as contribute to awarenessraising processes on gender equality.
Small grants are intended exclusively to fund a limited set of eligible activities to support the development or strengthening of a CSO’s institutional capacity.
Funding Information
UN Women, through its Office in Chile, plans to award a single grant to an eligible civil society organization (CSO), for a maximum amount of CLP 17,000,000.
Eligible Activities
- Strengthen the organization’s internal programmatic capacities to enhance STEM education in the ecosystem, teaching communities, and girls and young women at educational establishments in the Antofagasta Region.
- Build capacity to promote collaborative work networks led by the organization that contribute to the creation of an ecosystem that engages the teaching community and encourages the participation of girls and young women in STEM fields in the Antofagasta Region.
- Eventually, materials, equipment, and tools may be acquired to improve internal management capacity and processes and contribute to enhancing STEM education in the Antofagasta Region. The cost of such materials/equipment/tools must be limited to 30% of the proposed small grant budget or CLP 4,700,000, whichever is less.
Eligibility Criteria
- Civil society organizations, including foundations, non-governmental organizations, and/or civil associations, that have legal status/registration and are currently registered, and/or registered cooperatives that meet the following requirements, may submit applications to this call:
- Must have been established for at least three years;
- Not be on the United Nations Security Council Consolidated Sanctions List;
- Not be under investigation for fraud, corruption, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, or other crimes;
- Has not received funding from UN Women that has been canceled in whole or in part by UN Women;
- Not be currently associated with UN Women as a programmatic counterpart;
- Has not been contracted as a programmatic counterpart for UN Women at any time after November 21, 2019;
- Not be a government entity, a UN organization, or a CSO with extensive experience and proven institutional capacity, as in that case, it would qualify for a counterparty agreement;
- Have sufficient financial administration, including appropriate financial procedures and policies to manage the small grant;
- If the applicant has received small grants or been engaged as a programmatic counterpart before November 21, 2019, the applicant’s last activity must have been deemed satisfactory. However, in an effort to expand opportunities and extend support to more civil society organizations, priority will be given to those that have not yet received UN Women funding;
- Demonstrated experience in the Antofagasta Region, with a minimum outreach of 150 girls and/or young women in the aforementioned region.
