Deadline: 24-Mar-25
Somerset Community Foundation’s Main Grant offer support so that your group can provide targeted services to:
- children and young people so they can reach their potential
- adults with mental health problems, so they can maintain their own wellbeing
- older people so they can reduce isolation and loneliness.
Funding Information
- They have around £300,000 to give out from the Fund this year. They’re usually able to support 2 out of every 3 applications they receive.
Eligibility Criteria
- They can only consider your group for a grant from this Fund if you meet the minimum standards.
- Charities, including charitable incorporated organisations (CIO), can apply if they have at least 3 unrelated trustees registered with the Charity Commission
- Community groups, or unincorporated associations can apply if they have a governing document that includes charitable aims benefitting the wider public.
- Community interest company (CIC) registered with Companies House can apply if they:
- are clearly trading, including income from public sector contracts, and not running almost exclusively on grants and donations
- have at least 3 unrelated directors registered with Companies House
- Private companies cannot normally apply for the funding.
- Community Benefit Societies, or cooperatives owned by their members, can apply if they are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and exist primarily for the benefit of the wider community.
- Social landlords, or housing associations can apply, but across most of the funding programmes they prioritise funding smaller grassroots groups.
- Schools can apply, but they can’t fund your statutory duties. This means they won’t fund things like:
- educational activities for pupils that take place during the school day
- school facilities, classroom equipment or teacher training.
- Town and parish councils can apply, but they would only expect them to if there are no suitable community groups in your area.
- Faith-based groups, like churches, can apply, but they don’t fund the practice or promotion of religion. This means you can’t use the money for worship or try to convert people to your religion.
- The minimum standards cover things like:
- the types of groups they can give a grant to and how they expect them to be run
- how they expect those groups to manage their finances
- how those groups keep people safe.
