Deadline: 25-Feb-22
The Northern Territory Government (Territory) through its Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities (Department) is pleased to invite Territory Enterprise not-for–profit Non-Government Organisations (NGO) who are registered Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) providers to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the construction of new fit-for-purpose SDA dwellings on seven parcels of land, located in Darwin’s Northern Suburbs, Palmerston and Alice Springs.
The Northern Territory Government is committed to supporting the growth and development of the SDA sector in the Northern Territory. The Department aims to provide access to safe, secure and affordable housing to Territorians most in need. The Department also provides housing for eligible persons with a disability via the Industry Housing Assistance Scheme (IHAS), a model of leasing dwellings to NGO’s.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) SDA payment for newly constructed accommodation has been designed to stimulate a SDA market. However, there are insufficient numbers of existing SDA dwellings in the Northern Territory, meaning that even those who are eligible for SDA are not able to access the funding, as there are not yet enough dwellings available.
Key Outcomes and Objectives
Through the Expression of Interest – Specialist Disability Accommodation – Land Grant 2021 process, the Department aims to deliver the following key outcomes and objectives:
- To make available to the sector ownership of seven parcels of land for the construction of new fit-for-purpose SDA dwellings.
- Increase the number of sustainable and appropriate dwellings available to support people who are eligible for SDA funding from the NDIS.
- Reduce the unmet needs of the community for SDA by providing fit-for-purpose accessible housing with required supports in place for people to live as independently as possible.
- Support SDA provider/s capacity and capability in the provision of SDA under the NDIS.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible NGO’s must have up-to-date published audited accounts.
