The Leeds Community Foundation is seeking applications for the Suicide Prevention Large Grants Program.
Public Health, Leeds City Council and Leeds Community Foundation are working in partnership to fund local third sector community initiatives aimed at people at high risk of suicide. They want to support social activities determined by local participants themselves, and to provide outreach work with targeted communities in order to reduce social isolation.
Funding Information
- The minimum request is £10,000 and the maximum request is £25,000 for 12-24 months. The grant can be used to part-fund or fully-fund a wide range of activities.
Who can the Fund support?
- People experiencing triggering or traumatic life experiences such as redundancy, cost-of-living crisis, debt, relationship breakdown, a recent health diagnosis or bereavement
- People who are socially isolated or have limited social networks
- People with Adverse Childhood Experiences
- People experiencing domestic violence
- People in contact with the Criminal Justice System
- People in poor physical health, particularly experiencing chronic pain
- People with pre-existing poor mental health
- People who misuse alcohol or drugs
- People bereaved by suicide, or struggling around anniversaries of a bereavement
- Women experiencing mental ill health in relation to menopause or post-natal depression
- People who have previously self-harmed
What can the Fund not support?
- For-profit organisations, statutory organisations (e.g. schools and hospitals) or overseas organisations
- Retrospective funding (activity and costs that have already taken place)
- Grant-making to other organisations and/or individuals
- Activity targeted at a particular group (ethnic, gender, religious etc.) without a good justification for this
- Activity that promotes a particular political or religious point of view
- Activity primarily for the benefit of animals
- Unincorporated groups that have an income of more than £10,000, or if securing the grant takes them above this threshold for the year
- Individuals
- Expeditions or overseas travel
- Capital appeals for building projects
Eligibility Criteria
- Incorporated community groups such as CIOs, CICs and charitable companies from the third sector that:
- Are registered with the Charity Commission, Companies House or Mutuals Public Register (FCA)
- CICs, limited companies and similar must be clearly constituted for public benefit and should be limited by guarantee, not shares
- Have a constitution or other relevant governance document
- Have at least three Trustees/Directors/Committee Members (whichever is applicable, depending on your organisation’s legal structure) who are independent and unrelated. For registered charitable companies (limited companies by guarantee without share capital, CICs and similar) they require a minimum of three unrelated directors, and none should be registered as Persons with Significant Control.
- A copy of your most recent annual accounts or financial records showing your organisation’s balance of funds, income and reserves
- A bank or building society account in the name of your organisation with a minimum of two unrelated authorised signatories on the mandate and transactions requiring authorisation by at least two of those authorised signatories.
- Are based in or supporting people living in the Leeds Metropolitan District Area
- Have a Children and Young People Safeguarding Policy and an Equal Opportunities Policy or similar
- If organising or running public events, festivals etc groups will be expected to have relevant insurance and comply with all required health and safety, food handling/preparation and other local and national statutory regulations for such activity.
- Charities that are registered with the Charity Commission but are not an incorporated structure can also apply. They must also fulfil the above bullet points. However, grants cannot be used to pay staff that are directly employed by the charity.
