The Devon Community Foundation’s (DCF) Thrive With 5 Grants Program is now open to provide funding for projects and initiatives which improve the lives of individuals and communities across Devon.
Focus Areas
Thrive with 5 will be focusing on two areas:
- Early Years: Grants will support activity that aims to improve the lives and prospects of babies and children (up to 5 years) who are experiencing challenging circumstances.
- Environment: Grants will support community-based activity that aims to address environmental damage and climate change.
Funding Information
Applications of between £ 2,000 and £ 5,000 will be considered.
Eligibility Criteria
- All applying organizations must:
- Have a Governing Document appropriate to the recognized status of the organization and which outlines clear charitable purposes and includes a dissolution clause or asset lock eg Constitution, Set of Rules, Articles of Association
- Evidence that they have at least 3 unconnected Trustees, Directors or a Management Committee that consists of at least 3 unrelated members
- Have Annual Accounts or financial records that clearly record annual income and expenditure breakdowns
- Have a bank account in the name of the organization and a minimum of two unconnected bank signatories, or equivalent
- For organizations without a bank account
- unrestricted reserves of less than 12 months running costs
- Have up-to-date Safeguarding policies in place to protect children, young people and vulnerable adults, where appropriate
- Have up-to-date Equality policies
- DCF will accept applications from:
- Local community groups
- Charities
- Schools, where the project or activity has a clear benefit to the wider community and is over and above statutory provision
- Faith based groups and organisations, where the project or activity has a clear benefit to the wider community and is not promoting a specific religion or worship
- Parish or Town Councils, where the project or activity has a clear benefit to the local community and is not replacing statutory provision
- Community Interest Companies (CICs), limited by guarantee that can evidence:
- There is a clear charitable purpose and defined social benefit outlined in the Articles of Association
- There are at least three unconnected Directors.
- The Asset Lock clause in the Articles of Association clearly identifies a named organisation with objectives which are both charitable and similar to the CICs objectives as recorded in the Articles of Association
- The project for which funding is requested must not be part of the trading services for which there would usually be a charge
- All requested costs relate directly to the delivery of the project or work being applied for. Where funding is requested that contributes towards a CIC Director’s payment or salary it needs to be clear how this relates specifically to the work or project being applied for.
- Charities with a national remit, that can demonstrate:
- That local priorities are informed by and agreed by a committee or group made up of local residents and/or representatives
- That funds relating to Devon are ringfenced and cannot be used for other purposes.
Exclusions
Applications from the following won’t be considered for funding:
- Organisations with outstanding end of grant evaluations for previously awarded grants from DCF
- Organisations who have a current Thrive with Five grant addressing the same priority
- Sole traders to supplement and provide income
- Individuals applying for funding for themselves or on behalf of another individual
- Grant making organisations (where funding is requested for grant making)
