The Tree Fund has announced a Jack Kimmel International Grant Program to provide much needed funding to arboriculture and urban forestry researchers all over the world.
This grant is administered by TREE Fund, with participation from the Canadian TREE Fund in the evaluation process.
Priority Areas
Root and Soil Management, e.g:
- Mycorrhizal networks
- Soil amendments and structural soils
- Blended and manufactured soils
- Soil testing and tissue testing
Propagation, Planting and Establishment, e.g:
- Fertilization
- Selection/propagation of superior clones
- Production methods to influence better root growth
- Improved transplantability
- Improved plant establishment
Plant Health Care, e.g:
- Pruning
- Pest/pathogen biology and management
- Resistance breeding
- Tree injection
- Adaptive silviculture
Risk Assessment and Worker Safety, e.g:
- Decay assessment
- Response growth
- Mechanical pruning
- Lightning protection
- Support systems, cabling, etc.
- Machine-aided climbing
- Biomechanics
Urban Forestry (To Include Human Dimensions), e.g:
- Quantitative and/or qualitative analysis of urban forest benefits to humans and communities
- Techniques for educating communities to support sound policy/decision-making, zoning, development decisions, etc.
- Policy formation and program implementation
- “Nature Based Solutions”
- Role of volunteers in Community Forestry
- Behavioral economics
- Ecosystem services
- Tree diversity
Grant Information
- Grant award amounts are limited to a maximum of $10,000 and will vary depending upon the adjudged value of the project relative to the needs of the arboriculture community.
- Projects are expected to be completed within one to two years.
Eligibility Criteria
- TREE Fund does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, gender, sexual orientation, disability or national or ethnic origin.
- Current trustees of TREE Fund or any member of the family of any such trustee are ineligible to receive grants from TREE Fund.
- These grants are available to researchers whose work is primarily outside of the United States.
